Idle issue driving me insane

Im going nuts. This is whats happening. I rejetted, new o-rings and float needles. NO air leaks.

It will hold an idle, but not without the rpms hanging and reallly slowly coming down after i rev it. If i turn the idle screw down, the revs wont hang and will come down perfect, but now it wont idle above 1K and/or will die. Ive been messing with air/fuel screws without much success. Dynojet kit...yeah i know.

So should i keep richening with mix screws until i can set the proper idle without the hanging issue? Im at 5 turns and its still doing it. I realize revs are a bit slow to come down on gs500's but not this bad. Plugs look good. If anything a little lean looking.

Im thinking a good legit carb synch will help?? Buddy of mine has the tool but I don't have access until Friday

Any ideas?? input? thanks a bunch. I got a track day coming up in April I Gotta get this fixed!!

I am interested in this as well.  I don't know what jet kit is in my bike.. just recently bought it.. it has a K&N filter on it.  It does the same thing.  So, right now I'm just keeping my idle set at about 900-1000 and it seems fine.  Turning the idle screw up to ~1200 makes it hang like you described.

yeah it's so annoying. Have you messed with your air/fuel screws at all?

I haven't messed with my air/fuel mixture at all.  I haven't done much to the bike.. I just changed the spark plugs and oil.. Tomorrow when I get home from work so the bike is nice and warm I am going to try to get the idle set right and see how it acts with new plugs and oil.  I've worked a lot on cars but this is my first bike.  So, Still learning.  I do know that one of my carb needles (the verticle ones under the black caps) is not totally straight so it may be catching.. I need to get in and get a pair of them before that issue gets worse.

OK I wont turn it out much past 5 ... its geniunely runs the danger of dropping out ... past 6 its a real threat ...

Really for you kylegod - +1 pilots. Especially if you've cleaned up evereywhere with the kit ... bump the pilots, that is wha tthe kit really lacks.

Carbs synch will make it vibrate less at idle especially ... but remember ... only if its not synched now ... if its not too buzzy right now at and just off idle, I'd not even bother synching it.
Really ... pilots for you.

Elijafir - rejet +1 all around and dont buy DJ ... buy the sizes in the wiki/faq ... and I sell them in a pack. $25 shipped, but have had issues getting washers for 01+'s of late. Working on it ... hopefully this time the right ones come through.

Cool.

Same issue I've been having. The annoying thing is that it ran ok before, so it makes me think the jet doesn't need replaced, but who am I to say.

I pulled my carbs a week ago but haven't gotten around to rebuilding them again. I haven't messed with those mix screws either. I'm gonna try to rebuild them one more time, reset the mix screws, and see if it's still behaving the same. If it is maybe I'll try going up 1 size in the pilot screws. It's going to be 75-80 Thursday through Sunday, it would've been really nice to have the bike running.

Ive pretty much narrowed it down to float heights. Doing the check with the float drain and clear tubing, my level is a tad lower than the gasket level where it should be. Such a pain to do because you gotta pull the carbs, then back on, check, then if not right all over again. Erg. And nothing but good weather is on the way.

But my right side carb drain wont drain unless i take the entire bolt out...stupid. Ive switched bolts from different carbs and no difference...wander why?
