If that has an allen head in the top of the nut it is probably from the handle bar mount that goes into the top triple tree.  You should have 2 of those though.

The top one is for the kickstand. Unless your kickstand is attached, then I dont know

centuryghost

The only bolts with a castle nut that i can think of are for the axles and the triple tree.
This is the old cb400f cruisin' the viaduct

jonjon

could the top one be for the trailing arm for the rear break caliper?

So... you took the bike apart, put it back together and now have four bolts left over.

At my work that would cost you a carton/slab of beer.

At my bike club you'd be made fun of in front of everyone and then have to pay a $1 or $2 fine.

This is why we take photos and document Everything.

I'd rather be a part of a bike club that helps you get the bolts back in so everyone can go for a ride...

Yea if this was the rules, the buddha would be broke. OK so I guess its the brake stay arm bolt right, so now, I go to the bike, and the bolt is on, tight, and has the cotter pin. Yep, buddha always has bolts left over, and there is no way to get them back on.
Cool.

No, these are spare parts that i found in a 10 dollar box of GS parts on craigslist. but yes i did take my bike apart but havent started puttin it back together yet so have really looked to see where it goes. but im pretty sure it goes to the center stand.  Thanks for the help guys.

tt_four

Spare parts box is a good excuse then. I was really wondering how you ended up with a bolt that serious, and didn't have a main part on your bike hanging loose.

gregvhen

yea if i go look at my centerstand ill probably find the same exact bolt in it. but im at school right now.

Oh... sorry... let me correct...

1st: You'll get all the help you need. People will even sacrifice an enjoyable ride just to help you out. We DO stick together.

2nd: At the NEXT club meeting, you will be made fun of. The truth will be stretched, or made up completely because the made up stuff is funnier than the truth. Everyone will have a Good laugh - even the person at the center of it all. And you will be fined. Worse, you could win an award... Blue Heeler Award for needing a tow. Wobbly Wheels award for dropping your bike doing less than 5kph - one guy recently dropped his Triumph Rocket III on a ride I was leading, just pulling away from the curb. Or the Butcher's Award for butchering/breaking part of your bike.

Last meeting I got fined for being Sneaky - taking a sneaky photo and sneakily turning off the ride sheriff's kill switch. I also got fined for destroying flora when I went off road 9 months ago (I"ll also be getting a Butcher's Award for this same at the next meeting as I broke a gauge bucket).

Other notable fines include... wearing a cap without checking what was on it after someone put it on your head, only to discover there was a pee pee on it. Throwing dishes at a cafe (she didn't, she threw a sachet of sugar, but that doesn't sound so bad so it was made-up to be dishes). Braking a leg while jumping off the wardrobe into bed to have sex (not what happened at all, but the truth of the broken leg was too bland). Etc. We have a good old laugh. Pay a buck. Get photos taken (award winners) and published in club newsletter. And enjoy our non-ride time as well.
