Got the cams out, but i cant get the head off. I tryed a hammer and a block of wood.  Didn't work.  I dont want to pry it.  I fell like I would break the fins.  Anyone got some tips on getting it off?

Thx,
Kevin

Bit late now......but next time......before you start the stripdown.....take 1 turn off each of the head nuts/bolts, lift the plug caps and give it a burst on the starter. You will find compression frees the head from the block. Its never failed for me....on any bike  :thumb:

You could put the cams back in, time it up and give it a go.

Did you get that bolt on the front center that goes upwards from the cyls into the head?  I broke head loose with a hammer and wood block taking care not to bust off any fins.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Exactly what I was thinking.  I used this bolt to break the head loose (backed it out some, then tapped it with a hammer) and promptly forgot to remove it before trying to pull the head off, haha.

Got the head off.  The good news... the cylinders look great... the bad news... the right side exhaust valve is TOAST... literally.
photos to come.

I'll take that valve prepared well done.

shining a flashlight up through the exhaust port.

Guess i got some work to do, heh.  So the reason this valve got toasted is because I didnt have the exhaust seal on this cylinder.  That is the seal between the exhaust header and the block.  Lesson learned.

Looks like you have the rare light weight racing valves complete with speed holes.
