Seafoam/ Sta-bil question

The bike may sit for up to 2-3 weeks and I hate to have the fuel gum up the jets. I use Sta-bil everytime I fill the tank and know it's going to sit for awhile.

Question: What happens if you put a little to much of this stuff in. Is it bad for it, will it blow something up?

all a chemical like that is designed to do is to stablize and nearly stop the natural decomposition of gasoline, which will break down over time. Sta-bil or Seafoam mixes with the gas, and just makes it able to be stored properly. Honestly, anytime you're bike is going up for an extended amount of time, you can use that if you want, but you really want to store it with dry carbs. i usually manually cut the fuel off, and run the bike until it runs out of gas, that way I store the carbs/floats dry, and minimize the amount of rusting and varnishing that occurs when its not in use.

if you put too much in, your bike might not like the fact that its not ALL gasoline, but it wont ruin anything.

I put a little extra when snow started falling, let it sit for 3 weeks. Started right up, idled like crap, but once you burn through 1/4 or 1/2 tank just add some fresh gas.

It idles fine now, it only felt funny for the first ride.

I've heard you can let it sit for about a month before the gas starts to go bad. Stabil will make the gas last 3-4 months.

Ok, thanks everyone. Can you install a manual shut off valve between the carb and the petcock so I can run it dry. Weird bike that it doesn't have an off position

you have manual shutoff under tank. You could put in a shutoff on the vacuum line to the petcock though.

Alot of folks here in Fl use Seafoam to decarb out boards. 1 pint to 6 gallons of gas and run the throttle up and down while you run it out under load. I doesn't take long when you're getting 1 to 3 miles per gal depending on where the RPMs are. I run a full can of Seafoam in the GS every third oil change (9 to 10K miles). 25K miles or so on the GS and it still purrs like a kitten. I do the same to the Jeep and my wifes car. every third oil change (15 to 18K), run it down to 1/3 of a tank, put in a whole can and run it as low as I dare.
