So, my bike hasn't been running for like 4 years

It's a 2004. I put a Wileyco on it back in the day with a restricted flange so I didn't have to rejet. Then I got in a pretty bad wreck, fixed my handlebars and painted it, and at some point the restrictor plate broke off and it wouldn't idle anymore. Then there was this knocking noise and a couple weeks later my engine seized up about a half a mile from home.

A piston rod bearing went out. So we replaced it and it still wouldn't idle or run right and it sat there for about 4 years cause I was busy with life.

Now I'm trying to fix it cause I just miss it too much. I'm probably going to order some jets soon, probably 22.5 pilots, 65 mids, and 147.5 mains. I'll probably get a couple pod filters to go on it, but I have the stock airbox right now. Air filter is like 6 years old with almost 11000 miles on it though, which is why I'll probably just replace with pods. And I'm getting tired of taking that box in and out while I tune the carbs.

Anyhow, just felt like posting something for the first time in years

Oh, and the left side of the crankshaft where it connects to the piston rod where that bearing went out is 4/2000ths out of round...

Well, I put in an order for new jets from powersports360 a few days ago; still waiting for them to ship. I got 22.5 pilot, 65 mid, 147.5 main. My girlfriend and I sat on it yesterday and pretended we were riding...

I've done that since I pulled my bike out of storage early last summer, just recently gotten to actually try riding it. The old registration sticker on the plate still says 04/05.

Ok, I got my jets, but now fuel is only going to one carb  :technical:

Check the floats, float needles, and seats.

The one not getting fuel is stuck.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

You were right. Finally got around to it and both were stuck, one open, one closed. Cleaned them all out and now it's running like a champ (Sort of)! It's been running rich (I think), but it's probably because I don't have an air filter on it right now and just had some shop towels over the carbs. I put the stock airbox on with no filter and it ran a lot better (Could do 30 on the first test ride with shop rags, could do 65 on the second ride with only stock airbox). I jetted for the K&N lunchbox, so I'm going to order it, put it on, and see what happens. I may still need some needles under the floats or something.

I still need a rear tire and insurance, too. Any suggestions on where to buy the tire and insurance? I'm looking for an inexpensive rear tire. Probably keep the stock 130 size, unless I get some kind of mad deal on a 140. Doubt I'll go to 150 though.

edit: I also need fuel line hose. I'm about to order that now though, as soon as I find out what size and type to get.

Progressive offers equipment insurance along with the scoot! If you mess up a helmet, jacket, etc...they will pay for it! Not sure if others do this or not.

Insurance goes all over the place. It depends on how much you want. It can be as low as $100 a year or up to $500 for over $300k coverage with bike replacement (rather than market value). You can even get coverage if someone knocks it over. The amount for deductibles will change your rate. Consider what happens in your area. GS500's are not stolen very often here. My agent said the big bikes are the main targets - big Harley's and Honda's. Knowing how likely it will get stolen in your area helps you decide what you want for insurance. Parked in a garage - less likely to get stolen than if left on the street. Just something to consider as you shop for insurance.

If you have home and car insurance, check that company first. Most give discounts for multiple policies. If you haven't taken the motorcycle safety course, do it. Most companies give a discount if you pass the safety course (plus it will make you a safer rider). You can take the course anytime and give your agent a copy of the card. Your discount will then take effect.

Find out what your state requires. Washington does not require insurance (if you financed it, the bank probably will require insurance). States that require insurance are usually higher because there is less competition. Rates are lower in Washington because they have to encourage you to get it as it is not required by state law.
