Just noticed Suzuki has lowered the price on the GS to $4399.

I've been going round and round trying to decide on what motorcycle to get and the GS has long been under consideration; this price reduction really has my attention.

I apologize if this has already been posted - I did not see it after a brief search.

In Canada they have lowered them a bit as well.  A local dealer near me in Southern Ontario has new 2009 E's for $4800 and 2009 F's for $5499.  Before I bought my F from them last month I was seriously considering pre-owned, but the few I looked at the sellers were asking $4500 - $5000 for 07's and 08's with 15-25k on them?!  What's more, these guys wouldnt budge on the price.  I hadnt planned on getting new, but the price was just too good and the thought of a new shiny bike was too tempting.  Along with the F I bought they threw in a Joe Rocket Jacket, Helmet, gloves, Joe Rocket tank bag and rear bags.  All things I was planning to get anyway, so it was a no brainer for me.  Oh and first service 1000km service was also included.  Done and Done :)

Thanks, when I went in the first time and the sales guy was all "salesy" with me I backed him off a bit since I was still looking at used...but he was persistant.  Considering when I was looking a few years ago in 08 and 09 new F's were around $6200.  When I came in again (after striking out on the used front) he started sweetening the pot ... I couldnt say no!  I mean I needed a helmet, jacket and gloves anyway, so what the hell.   I'm happy.

That seems to have been a GREAT deal!

I'm not completely certain but it appears the GS is the only model that has been reduced (was hoping for some change in the VStrom).

Since your dealer added all those extras I quess they must be making some profit but can't imagine it's very much; do you have any idea what it might be?

Enjoy your GS.

That's how I ended up with my triumph. I was all set and ready to go to pick up an sv650, but I went to the triumph dealer just to check them out and the speed four was $1000 off, so I jumped at it. Turns out they eventually just reduced the price $1000, but still, it was a good deal.

sounds like a good deal.  Maybe Suzuki reduced the price to clear out the '09s and make way for the 2011 inventory.

Don't know about in the US, but here's how it works in Aust....

Dealer gets bike from Suzuki. This is now Floor Stock and dealer has 90 days before he has to pay Interest on it. So he has a free product for 90 days. After that, just interest. Pays back Suzuki once the bike sells.

When a dealer sells a certain number of bikes in a month they receive a Bonus from the manufacturer. Whatever their cost might be (invoice cost is just a number supposedly paid to the manufacturer for the bike - but it's just all paperwork considering the dealer paid nothing until the bike sold), they could sell below it and make their $$$ from the Volume Bonus.

Salesmen will deny this goes on. And the principal will probably deny it too. Maybe say it Used to happen but not these days. But if they are selling a New bike at a ridiculously low price, then some kind of deal has been struck with the manufacturer/supplier. Even if the dealer shows you his invoice cost and that your price is Less than that, he is still making $.

Wow. 4399 on Suzuki USA site. Last time I looked I think it was 6k maybe 6200.  Now its priced to compete with Ninja 250. Plainly labeled as a beginner bike.

I hope they start selling more. It hurts to hear of 1-2 year old leftovers with money losing dealers paying interest on them as they age. I am thinking they are probably not shipping new ones here.

American motorcycle market is very weak, its small and growing smaller.

I kind of wish they would drop the V-strom to 4999.

johnny ro:

With very few exceptions the Suzuki lineup has '09 models as the newest available in the U.S. They essentially stopped bringing in new bikes until existing inventory was reduced.

My GUESS is that with the new low price for the GS they are not planning on bringing in any more and are taking the "fire sale" approach to get rid of those already here.

I was hoping the VStrom might get lowered to around $6 to $6.5k. If it went to $5k I'd be very surprised.

That is not bad.  In the summer of 2006 I rolled my new 2007 model out the door for just a hair over $4,200.
