Replacement sprocket circlip

I have somehow lost my circlip for my front chain sprocket. I can order one off bikebandit/cheapcycleparts but I'd rather buy it locally if I can. Is it a common size that I can find in a hardware store? I searched here and on the wiki and found absolutely nothing.

Take the sprocket (or an old sprocket) with you to the hardware store as a size reference. I doubt it's anything too weird, just see what looks like it will work, buy it and try it. Or try your motorcycle dealer, if you have a local one.

For future reference (and for searches) an 7/8" circlip worked fine. They called it a retaining pin/ring. I had to ask the guys at Lowes where the circlips were. Blank stare. Snaprings? Blank stare. Retaining ring? There we go!

A 1" circlip would fit a lot better. I had to somewhat stretch the 7/8" one over it, but it is securely in the groove and prevents the sprocket from coming off, so I think I'm good to go. 80 cents for two of them is a hell of a lot better than $1.25 + shipping online.

Lowes =/= hardware store. Of course they help drive real hardware stores out of business, but at a real hardware store there's good odds that someone (though perhaps not all the employees) can direct you to the circlips.

True, but we have precious few actual hardware stores around here. And Lowes was on the way home from dinner.

I'll check it out and see if I can find a 22mm one, just to have for spares...
