question for electrical experts

Yesterday I installed 12v cigarette socket for the GPS unit..and it is not weather proof as the manufacturer claimed .today bike was standing in pretty heavy rain for couple of hours and as a result few ml of water had seeped into the socket
And when I tried cranking up the engine would not fire up and battery voltage was 12.2 V
but when I turned the switch off for the scoket bike fired up
last night I had checked the voltage it was 13.3 V and socket is directly connected to battery

was the water in socket draining power and should I worry anything else with addition of the socket

Rip it off and throw it away.  You were shorting out your system which hurts the battery by causing unnecessary strain and draw.

Find a better product as well should you chose to add another one.

at walmart, look in the boating section.  the have some with a spring-loaded cap with a rubber seal.  also, connect it to the orange wire in the headlight bucket, so that it will only have power when the switch is on

There was probably water in the socket, causing a short. Definitely don't connect it to the battery without a fuse somewhere on the line to the cigarette lighter. Fuse holders only cost a buck or two.
