New parts, old bike

My 96 is in ok condition, but I believe I have a possible clutch issue, which I would be addressing later. What I want to know is if there are slight differences between my 96 engine.. and say.. a 2007 engine. I want to pick up an oil cooler, and possibly a clutch basket from an 07, and even maybe the fairing brackets. Would those parts fit? I think it would be pimp to have OEM fairing brackets, I could drill and tap my frame for OEM mounts and fairings.

The motors are the same, aside from the oil cooler. You can't fit an oil cooler on an engine that wasn't meant for one. The clutch should be fine though.

aaarg! thanks though.. It would have been really nice to put that cooler on, although I dont think i would have really needed it.

If you were so hard up to do so, could you not drill and tap the lines and mount the cooler?  I am no engineer or employed by Suzuki, but surely the differences are not that drastic.  Hell, Suzuki probably did what I just said and made it work, lol.

*shrug* I could, but I would be more interested in potentially converting my poor donky to an F than an oil cooler.

Could I get a list of what parts comprise a full F conversion? such as upper fairing holder, side fairing..ect?

Doesn't the old motor even have some of the castings on it where the oil cooler would go? I don't remember where they would be, but I swear I remember someone saying it. It would be as if they designed it in 89 with the thought of an oil cooler, but just didn't get around to it.

Either way, you're not going to overheat the engine. I live in the city, and if I'm dumb enough to try to go for a ride around rush hour I spend about half an hour just getting 3 miles from my house. I figure it's just a good chance to actually warm the engine up before a ride. My current goal is to find a secret back way out of the city no one knows about. I haven't had much luck yet.

By the time you buy all the parts you need to change your E into an F, you could have sold your E, bought an F and been out riding already for the same amount of money and whole lot less hassle.

Been there done that - not on the GS but several other bikes.
