see "wobbly output shaft" and "splitting the engine case" threads for background...

well, i was swapping transmission shafts, and as i pulled the primary shaft out, the clutch rod fell out in two very bent pieces.  (thanks for sending me both shafts KevinC!  that primary one came in handy.)

any guesses as to what might have caused that?  my first inclination would be a spill.  also, anyone have any idea how/if that might have contributed to the wobbling output shaft?

i'll post a pic of the busted rod later.

thanks,

Yea mins was a little bent too... I would replace it with a drill rod or something a little harder... Anyway.. Is there an O-Ring on the rod to keep oil from comming out. I dont remember there being any on mine.
Cool.

there is an oil seal that goes on the end of the transmission shaft.  it's got a hole that the clutch rod fits through, and has a little springy tensioner thing, but that's more for keeping oil in than the clutch rod.

yeah, i had that happen when my drive chain jumped the rear sprocket, bunching up in front sproket cover. lots of damage. not fun, rod is like 8-12$ from suzuki, no the GS450 rod will NOT work, been there done that. yeah a new rod can be made, but must be exact diameter to fit the seal correctly.

I think I left the clutch rod in the primary shaft I sent.

yeah, you did.  in fact that is the only reason i noticed my was broken.  when i picked up the one you sent me the clutch rod fell out, and i decided to take a look at mine which came out in two pieces.  thanks ;)
