I took the gas tank off my bike to put the air cleaner back in it (guy i bought it from had it out for some reason). When i put the tank back on the front of it wobbles pretty bad. its like there is a clip or something missing. what gives?

Do you mean like it doesn't seat properly and wobbles from side to side, like a table when a couple of the legs are shorter than the others.  Or is it just that you can move the tank from side to side, because mine does that, too.  Once there's gas in the tank, it doesn't really move at all.

it wobbles from side to side a little and i can move it up and down in the front

I don't have part #7 according to this diagram. I think this is the problem. Am I wrong?

You definitely need that rubber part 7 because your tank won't be properly secured without it.

You could probably substitute a piece of garden hose or something like that just until you get a real one. Do you have #8 on both sides too? My tank didn't have those when I got it, so I had to get some thick rubber fuel line and cut/glue it, because even with #7 my tank still rocked back and forth a little bit without those.

Also, check around the top of your motor. It might have been on the bike, and when you pulled the tank off it could've fallen off. It looks like mine was once glued on, but it's not anymore, and it falls off every time I pull the tank off. It might have just fallen somewhere you didn't see it.

Hey, I came across this picture while I was looking for something else in my flickr account today. Just to give you a better idea of what it is you're actually looking for, in case it is somewhere around your bike still.....
