I have a photo shop of what I want my paint-scheme to look like and had questions about pin-striping tanks. Has anyone done something like this? How do you do it? Do you just buy vinyl pinstripe tape and tape down the stripes? Or do you use paint? Any input is appreciated.

wait until there is a rat rod show in your area. at the greaserama last year in kansas city there was like 4 booths of pinstripers :thumb:

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

hmm. I'm from the kc area too!! But greaserama isn't till Sept.  Also I don't think I want hand painted stripes.  I want it to look like it was done from the factory.

I have no idea whatsoever

however, I have seen handpainted ones one TV when Ewen McGregor and Charlie Boorman done the Long Way Around tour. In India they still make old British bikes and the pinstripes are hand painted before leaving the factory.

I would say the easiest way to get a template of the lines is to draw the shape onto a piece of paper, work out how thick you want the lines then draw them onto the paper, cut out the pinstripe and there would be your template to spray/brush over

might get some runs but the other option is masking tape ;)

you could always go to a sign shop that does vinyl banners, decals, and whatnot, they should be able to make you something to fit your tank

As far as I know (not terribly) if you want a "factory paint" pinstripe, you paint the whole bike the pinstripe color, mask with really top quality masking tape to make the pinstripes, and then paint the topcoat color, strip the masking tape and put on a bunch of clear coats.

Haha! Thats a lot simpler than masking over the top coat!

Ask the service department at a car dealership.   They will know at least one good pinstriper they do regular business with.
