Carb tuning.... how to adjust pilot screws?

I'm reassembling my carb and bike. It ran like ass before, I believe due to plugged jets and leaking float orings. 

Anyhow, while I'm here, what is a good starting place for adjusting the pilot screws?  I guess these fine tune the airflow into the carb during idle.  I pulled them to clean the carb.  One was 3 turns out, the other I forgot to check.

I didn't see anything in the Clymer book.

if you're taking about the Air/Fuel screws on the bottom of the carbs, then according to thebuddha and most other members, you start the screws at about 2.5 turns from bottom (CCW) and move them in 1/4 to 1/2 turn increments until you get them where you want them. ( usually 3)


I now step to the side to let other experienced members help out, as this is the limit of my knowledge.
