since my medical DL suspension ive gotten into motorised bikes. i built a trek 4500 with a 50cc engine, since traded that for a scott  waimea

the trek with the 50 on it would do 30-35, bike weighed 30lbs, engine 20 ( with all attached stuff. tank gas lines etc.

i sold my gaming computer last night, so after this weekend ill be without a pc,  so my time here will be sparse

ANYHOO this waimea with tires i scaled it a tad unter 18lbs COMPLETE. its gettign a 66cc 2 stroke engine , due to arrive by id say next friday. i tested one of those engines on an old ass 38lb hiffy bikes and it pulled up the s curve near my home WITHOUT pedaling. this is the route ill take

the red circle is home. first part out is flat, everythign else is downhill except for 25w. its flat. im guessing downhill s curve on yarnell ill hit 40ish, probably 50+ on 25w, will take it easy on lee, ( backside. leg after 25w run) guessing 35?, have the cateye astrale8 working now so ill be able to post speeds attained, and max speed as well. sooo guestimates on speed? max or otherwise. i WILL lift/backout if it gets dangerous. or i feel unsafe. BUT everyone of these i build, or any mechanical vehicle type project, i make 1 speed run on it. 1 ONLY. to see what its capable of

haha, I can't see the picture until i get home from work, but this sounds like a dangerous endeavor. I upgraded the 50cc motor on my moped to 70cc, and people who regear them say they can hit about 52mph or so. I think the fastest I've gone was 44  when I first put it on, but otherwise I take it easy while the motor gets broken in, plus I left mine geared low because they're only supposed to go 25mph and I don't need pulled over. It accelerates super well with the current gearing though, and it'll wheelie with a little tug on the bars. It's not running right for some reason now anyway, so I haven't been using it. Still, it weighs 100lbs, so 40mph feels a lot safer than a bicycle with a 20lb motor on it. 40mph on a good road bike is still pretty uncomfortable if you're not used to it.

I'll also admit that even though I always wear full gear on a motorcycle, sometimes the moped only gets a helmet. I'll wear gloves and a jacket/sweatshirt if it's colder out.

Anyway, I'll check out the picture when I get home and let you know what I think.

i'm so totally going to be your like awesome celebrity stalker now. cause you + satellite view + gmaps + street view = what's for dinner

ya. thaaaaaats gonna happen....

when you buzz by in the morning on the way to do stuff, does the 2 smoke get much attention ? do cars treat you like just another 2 wheeler in need of running down ?

always wondered what the mo-ped take on commuting was. cool.

I get alot of weird WTF looks from cops. was on highway drive ( other side of the 25w line. runs parallel to it) i hit 42, ( in a 25 on teh trek) cop was minding his own business, looked up at radar, looked at me, looked at radar again. looked at me like WTF?, and caugfht up wiht me at the C store. like " aaron WTFH is that?!?" was saying i saw you hit 42 back there. and was looking for a car to stop. only vehicle i saw was your bike. kick it dow a tad K? or if you must go that fast keep it safe. " im like you got it. family employmment and previous employment ( myself) in local agencies helps out ALOT :police: after the tour de cure. if im not in the hospital again ( health) i want to take it to the local drag way and run it WTFO and get MAX speed . but the 25w leg of it. there is always a radar trailer set up so ill use that as well. may try and get friend to leave her carlot. and follow me in the chevelle. and photo this run. grabbign my joe rocket mesh jacket for this run. and using my tortoise shell helmet. those helmets i dont consider safe for motorcycles BUT i consider them far safer on bicycles. although htey look odd. Might paint it safety orange or something

I replaced my original speedo on my moped with a bicycle computer. It lags behind a second or two, but it's not bad, plus it keeps additional info to like max speed. You could pick one of those up for $15, and once you get it calibrated right you'll always know what your top speed was. I had to take mine out with a gps and keep changing the setting in the computer until they lined up.

i have mounted one of these , a cateye astrale 8. does hte cadence, max speed rpms etc all of it

I don't think yama has access to a computer right now.  Might be a while before we hear back from him.

54.6 and it threw the chain ( i didnt highside, but the torque from engine tweaked frame so its motorised days are done. it can still pedal like a normal bike but i wont trust it again with engine so it runs sans engine now. am in market for a cruiser type bike to mount engine on. i may part this one out. was a pricy almost stupid fun time though but i t TBH was fun. when it went, ( chain)  was like full power, then no drive ( neutral) a brief split second of drive, then no drive again, and i killed engine, and got off and looked down. had to call for a ride, cause i didnt have thestrength to carry teh bike home. got home and removed the drive chain, engine,  and fuel tank, and set them aside for my next build. ( found a schwinn stingray one of those OCC chopper looking bikes. priced at $20. might get it. as soon as funds permit

54.6...not bad.  Well at least you didn't get killed.  Was the run all motorized or did you ped assist?
