I have a 1992 that just turned 10,000 miles.  earlier this season it ran perfect then started hesitating so i ripped off the carbs and cleaned them, gunk in the float bowels.  ran great for like 100 miles then started hesitating again, ripped off the carbs again and cleaned them even though they still looked clean.  put about 150 miles on it running great and today she is hesitating again at lower RPM during take off.  I know the carbs are still clean, can someone give me a heads up to what else to look for?  there is no air leaks and i don't understand why it runs like a champ then starts to run rough so soon.  Other question is my right turn signal switch is very finiky, i have to hit it like 3 times before it engages the blinker, anyone else run into this?  Any help will be greatly apppreciated as i am not looking forward to tearing off the carbs again!!!

Sounds more like you're running out of gas...

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

how do i correct that?  thanks!

To test for the tank vent, the next time it starts to have the symptoms, open the gas tank. If that cures the problem instantly for a while ide bet tank vent is clogged.

As for the carb vent, I dont have a test for that. just follow the carb vent hose and make sure there are no kinks in it, you could also remove the hose and blow through it to make sure its not clogged internally. the carb vent within the carb is very small and could easily be clogged, if you do try to clean the carbs again spray carb cleaner in to all the holes to make sure there are no stubborn clogs.

thanks for the feedback but if that were the issue wouldn't it do that all the time?  for the last two times i pulled off the carbs and cleaned it has run perfectly for like 100-150 miles then the hesitation starts again.  i've noticed that the mixture screw plugs are still in so they have never been adjusted, could that be the reason?  I'm confused since it runs great then starts to deteiorate for some unknown reason!! :dunno_black: :dunno_black:

If the tank vent was clogged, you would experience it seemingly randomly.  If your gas tank was relatively full the last time you opened it,  you would start to see problems pretty quickly.  If your tank was only half full when you last opened it, it would take a little longer for adequate vacuum to develop.

Pour some NOS in it.

It's in the chiller section, to keep the octane as high as possible.
Two or three bottles should be good.

I have the same problem. My carbs have not been cleaned as I just got the bike, but I rode it on a decently long test ride just before buying as well as 5-6 miles another trip before it started. It would bog down hard at anything beyond slight throttle until eventually it would no longer run at all.

I found that the tank vent line was in fact quite plugged with grime. I blew everything out from the hole in the gas spout opening until I had a good flow through the tube. I tossed it back together went for a ride, made it a few blocks and it started again. I popped the gas cap and no help there. Pushed it back, pulled it apart again, recleaned and rerouted the line and tried again...same results, a few blocks away and it starts stumbling...

Where do I go next guys? I've had this bike a week, the sun is about to come out and I need to ride!!!

I don't know.  Might work on a GS500.  Sure didn't work for this guy with the GSXR: http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226570

it stopped raining so i checked the tank vent and it was clear but for good measure i also took it for a spin with the gas cap off and still hicups a bit off the line >:(  i put brand new plugs in last carb change and they look like the mixture is good but they only have like 150 miles on them.  short of pulling the tank off the check the carb again, anyone got any other ideas???

Homer

Soak the plugs in NOS.

-water in the tank
-plugged filter
-something going on with the clutch.  Though, I don't really understand clutches.
Mine was doing something like this, and the cable broke at the lever two days later.
-floats getting stuck?
-timing
-burned out brake light

I dunno man.  I'm sick of mystery problems too.
Just soak something in NOS and call it a day.
