I can't tell you.

But I have an oil leak in the same area that I haven't been able to identify.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

Had a look in my Haynes manuel and it looks like it should be there, not sure why i thought it was a casting fault, possibly a drain or a breather...

You should be able to see your wobulator shaft through that hole.  If your wobulator shaft gets discombobulated you will only get 10mpg.  You also use that hole to recombobulate the wobulator shaft.  Hope this helps!

(Yeah,  I have no idea.)

your bike is much, much too clean. that hole is not generally known by humans. humans with morals anyway. immoral types know exactly what to do with it. one of them will be along in 3, 2, 1...

ai ai ai ai ai ai ... you kids are far too nosy for your own good ...

Its drain hole from starter cavity ...

It collects all sorts of crap, water, sand, gas, oil and pretty much any bloody thing you spilled there last night.
Then it waits till you're doing 81 mph and spits that goo on your chain.

Dont worry about it ...
Cool.

When I first bought my bike, I went through a thorough cleaning.  And the front sprocket cavity was the dirtiest thing I've ever seen.  Leaves, and spider webs, and layers of hardened gunk.  I was certain that it had never been cleaned.
