GS ACCEL RESPONSE. JUST WORKS WITH THE CHOKE ON

Hi. Yesterday I was doing some maintenance to my GS, (I left it sitting for about a month), and it would not work right. I have to turn int on always with the choke, once its hot, and I try to put it back to non-choked state the engine will stop working.
So I started the machine with choke. It was good, then holding the throttle a little up and then letting go off the choke to see if it was a idle speed screw issue. No choke, no run.
Well, I hope no one has been messing with the engine this month, but seems rather strange to me, since last time I went on it for a mountain ride, it worked OK.
I have some feeling as having to do something with the carburetors, however I am not totally sure.
The battery was discharged when I first turned it on, but now its fine.

Any words?

you should try to adjust the idle screw itself instead of holding the throttle open? when the bike is warm and running with choke, slowly lower the choke and raise the idle if it starts to dip and bog. also, try running the bike on pri to make sure there's enough gas flowing. you want it to idle around 1300 rpm.

leave the choke on, and ride it around, when riding if you remove choke, will it stay running?

sorry for my little absence.

haha no winter for me, it just sit for like 3 to 4 weeks. well, today I cleaned the carbs, I put special attention into cleaning the jets, and well, there was one that was clogged. after that, the engine could run without the choke. however, a total lack of power has come, and the revs come very slow. better than it was, but not good.
I have to admit I did not dismantle the diaphragm, I just cleaned the fuel pool jets. (3 of them, '08 GS). I did not clean the main air jet cause did not have the right screwdriver for the job, and do not feel good about that. The fuel pools were not that dirty either. maybe I should have taken the diaphragm apart, too

The diaphragms are least likely to cause problems as they don't see fuel.  Besides, your bike is practically new.  Worry about the diaphragms in ten years.  The jets and emulsion tubes must be clean or you'll have the problem you're describing to one extent or another.  The fact it got better suggests you're on the right path.  All fuel pathways must be clean, you know this.  Now do it again and be happy!  :woohoo:

I am much happier now, I re cleaned the thing and found the air jet of one carb clogged. However, I havent been able to regulate the accel right, it seems like when I let go of the gas, the revs keep up in 3k forever, but if I am rolling lets say in first gear and let the revs go down, lets say to 1K they will stay there. I am thinking unplugging the return cable, that has not been of any good since I got the bike, I kinda remember sometime having it disconnected, but am not completely over it.

If the idle hangs when you rev it up in neutral then you have "hanging idle".  There are many topics posted on this and I believe you'll just need to warm it up correctly and then adjust the idle to the proper range.  This should cure the hanging idle.
