HI all,

I have a 03 GS 500, only about 11 000 km. I replaced the the battery this spring and have probably had it in the bike for 3 months. I didn't start ridding the bike until about May and now the battery is dead. I thought I had left something on and drained the battery but I have no mods on the bike that would do this. I bought a charger today and tried charging the battery. When the battery is on the charger is on it does not even identify that the battery is charging. So my two part question is, what could have drained my battery? Part two, is the battery completely dead that the charger doe not even identify it?

Thank you in advance for the help!!

My alarm had completely drained my battery once.
I couldn't get it to charge again, as my charger would show F01 (bad cell error).
I kept trying and trying (every time charger showed a little higher voltage pushing to the battery, but after while it stopped charging with the same F01 code)

Eventually after many tries charger stopped giving me this stupid error, which was not valid any way.

I just feel that these days chargers got so sophisticated with electronics and error codes and BS like that that sometimes instead of charging perfectly good battery they show you stupid errors, because those electronic components are too sensitive, and set off 'alarms' too early.

Anyways, this incident happened over two years ago, and I did not have any problems with my battery ever since.

Check the fluid levels in your battery, if too low fill with distilled water. Try charging again, on different amperage settings (2,5,10).
If this doesn't help, take your battery to an automotive store, they should be able to check your battery if it's still good free of charge.
If it's dead complain to manufacturer, battery should have some warranty, but even if it doesn't go ahead and complain, as it wasn't most likely your fault that battery died.

Good luck

I agree, borrow a charger off your dad or something, the kind with just a switch, no display.  always does the trick for me

The Battery charger is fine, it is just a simple battery charger that indicates the amperage, if the battery is charging and when the charge is done. I don't believe there is any problem with the charger.

I just don't understand how my battery could be drained in 3 months. Can anyone recommend any tests I could do to troubleshoot the problem? I have already used a multi meter on the battery to verify it has no power to it.

Thanks,
Sean

Take it to Autozone.  They'll test it for free, and deep-charge it.
You'll have to leave it, maybe overnight.  There might be a few people ahead of you, too.

Either the plates are completely sulfated, or one of the electrodes has disconnected.
