buying motorcycle without title

there is a tempting offer on 2002 R1 without clear title but the seller has bill of sale
Need suggestion on how would i go about buying this motorcycle
what document would be needed to register the motorcycle in my name later on

Unless YOU can, with 100% certainty, get the title information to know WHO actually has the title and that the bike is Not stolen (BEFORE the sale), pass on this Deal. Chances are, the seller bought without clear title and is now trying to offload his problem on to you - or - he even stole it and has a questionable BOS.

In short... do not buy this motorcycle!

Get the VIN numbers off the frame and run a title search online or with your local authorities.  If it comes up clear, then you'll probably be ok.  Your state of residence will determine how much actual paperwork you will need to generate a new title.  You'll need to check your respective DMV website for that.

What has been said about running the numbers off the bike with the DMV is a must. It's a night mare in Fl to get a title with a BOS. BOS bikes are really worth parts only here.

In AZ it's not TOO difficult to get a "Level 1" inspection to make sure the bike is not stolen.. and then apply for a bonded or abandoned title. With the abandoned title (which is $10 to file) the titled owner has 30 days to claim the vehicle.   If they are serious about selling the bike it is something they should be doing themselves.  I wouldn't trust it for anything other than parts.  No Title = Bad news and as far as I know it's always "buyer beware" and you could be held responsible for buying stolen property.  I don't think it costs anything for a Level 1 here in arizona.. but all the stuff varies from state to state.  Good luck.

enquired in detail as to why the seller did not have the title.....the seller is not picking up my call anymore
the seller came up with 2 bikes R1 and R6 for sale in less than a week.

Last week he had given his home address in a rather well off neighborhood to checkout the R1 for which he claimed he had title ...and when I went to his place he wasn't home and he did the same today.

I guess will ask him to sell the bike with title for couple hundred more if he calls back

It stinks! If curiosity gets the best of you and you meet up with him, see if his license matches that address. Leave your cash at home.

No title = Cheap parts bike in my neck of the woods.  No easy way to get a title in Maryland.

Stuntbikes have opened a whole new window for stolen sportbikes. It's much easier to sell a bike with no title when all someone is gonna do is riding it in a parking lot and beat the hell out of it for a year until it dies.

there are a hand full of legit reasons a bike wouldn't have a title
insurance write offs mostly
the other 99% are stolen
If you can sleep at night owning a stolen bike...go for it

but if you do buy it, it gives thieves permission to steal everything you own
what are you going to tell the cops.
thieves stole my car/tv/...and my stolen bike.....
