Alright everybody. GHOATS is WRONG.

The mechanic took the side covers off and left them off so I could see everything.

The stator and rotor are fine. Check the clutch side and nothing funny their either. Oil was clean. (2000k on it).

Long story short.... I took the bike out now with about 4 hours running time in town driving. Not one indication of the sound, not one!

I'm wondering if after hitting the big bump something was simly knocked loose or moved just enough to be off center. So far the bike is fine. If the sound comes back I'll follow up.

Does anyone want pictures of the lower plastics and how they come on and off?

I think the issue before was related to loose stuff on the clutch side.

After the mechanic tightened things and put it back together I haven't had the noise or any sign of it coming back. I've put nearly 10 hours on it in the last bit since it came back riding around town.

Sorry to all those that kept thinking it was stator related.

On another note... my wife wanted to learn so I let her use the bike. Its no longer as pretty :(. Turns out she is pretty good at tipping over when coming to a stop. SCRATCH!!!! (looking for a mirror and possibly the upper plastics around the headlight, Belleville, Ontario)

Okay, here are some videos.

The sound!!! at 1min 40sec you can hear it well.

Some other videos from the second last time I took it out. Sorry for the sound but .... its a point and shoot camera. I made these when I was planning to sell the bike, before my wife said she wanted to try.

I listened to the video on youtube and you can't really hear it until the end of the clip knocking rattling clanking.

Some input here. . .
As of 08/12/10, the two lower YouTube links you posted are still private. Please make them public so I can have a listen.

My 2007 GS500F makes a similar sound when on the center stand and in gear. I never run the bike in gear with the transmission unloaded, (e.g. on the center stand). The noise my GS makes is not as bad as yours but it is indeed there. Most prominent in the higher gears. Almost sounds as if the chain wants to jump the drive-sprocket. (and yes, my chain is fine)

<update>
Took a video of my bike running in gear to post here.
Yes it made the noise but it is not discernible enough to bother posting the vid. As I said above; "Almost sounds as if the chain wants to jump the drive-sprocket".
Please update this thread as you move forward with your investigation into the noise as I have a similar but softer issue.
Thanks,
