I have taken off my carbs and cleaned them 3 times this riding season!!  Each time I put it back to together ir runs great but then I have to start messing with idle screw to keep her at 1200 rpm then it starts to hesitate and run like shat!!!  Last go around I removed the mixture plugs and set both to 3 turns out and put 1 washer onthe needles.  Running stock everything.  After last one it was more improved from the other to times i cleaned it but 300 miless later this morning i went to start er up and now the idle is bouncing from 1000 to 3000 after a while while on 1/2 choke.  last time i rode it i started to fuss with the idle screw again and now it appears i will have to tear off the carbs and clean them again.  each time i do they are not dirty, at least that i can see.  i think the jets are orginal from 1993 but as stock jets they don't go bad!!  can anyone shed some light on what is going on this will be the 4th time i have the carbs off in 2 months :2guns:

Maybe it's time to sync the carbs?
How do your spark plugs look? Are they both the same color, or is one darker than the other?

have you checked for vacuum leaks?
when was your last valve clearance check?
check your intake for cracks in the rubber boots
check/retighten your exhaust bolts

those are all the things i can think of right now.

If this freshershest-thread-ever gets spoiled by petty fighting, I'm gonna be so mad.

You could be re-fouling your carbs with crap from your tank.

Put a fuel filter between your frame mounted petcock and the carb fuel inlet.

I don't know anything about anything.  Follow suggestions found on the internet at your own risk.

Where do you live?  I'd be willing to take a ride off a cliff.

I would get larger pilot jets, too.

thanks all for the input, both plugs are new and from what i can tell from researching, they appear normal!

I lined my tank with a KBS coating right before riding season so i don't think its anything from the tank and no leaks as far as i can tell as i sprayed wd-40 around the carb boots and no change.

the air filter is old and i need to replace.

if it where a vacum leak, air filter or valve clearance wouldn't it do it all the time??  thanks for the feedback!!!

black and silver twin

you said it does this when the choke is 1/2 on, what happens when the engine is good and hot and the choke if off?

when I bought my bike, the tank had already been coated.  the gas was dissolving the liner, and it would foul the spark plugs to the point they wouldn't run the engine after about 100 miles.  it wasn't till I had to replace the tank due to a gas leak that I found out that the old coating was causing the problem

i hope its not the liner!!!  others have lined tanks with success or so i read!!  i am becoming an expert at cleaning the carbs, i did it all in 1 hour today.  she is running top notch and this time i put a fuel filter on before it goes to the carb.  now its off to the 300 mile test, if i can make it that far without having to adjust the idle and it start running like shat i will be overjoyed and avoid the cliff :icon_lol:

Aw, man, no more cliff?  I was looking for a partner.

Try turning the choke off. No need for that once the bike is warmed up.
