Since I've graduated college and moved away from home for work I no longer ride like I used to and can no longer justify the expense of a motorcycle if its just going to take up space in my garage.  I bought this 2000 GS 500 in 2006 as a first bike in order to get my license.  Until this season I rode it fairly regularly, mostly around town and rarely on trips more than a few hours long.  I believe the bike has ~10k miles on it but I'll need to check the odometer to confirm (currently locked out of my garage until maintenance guy gets in tomorrow). I just replaced the battery a few days ago and the bike fired right up on the first push of the starter.

The bike has gone down at low speeds when learning cone drills so there is a good size dent in the right side of the gas tank and the fender plastics are cracked where the join together over the tail light.  The key sets are mismatched - one key for the ignition, one for the tank.  The seat latch is undone by pulling on the cable. These problems existed when I bought the bike but they never interfered with my riding.

Recent maintenance:
- New chain last season
- New front tire (I believe 2 seasons ago)
- New front, rear brake pads, new front rotor (same time as tire)
- Brand new battery (a few days ago)
- New mirrors (last season)
- New turn signals on order (one was snapped when I recently moved from Ohio to MD)
- Oil changed regularly

Oustanding Maintenance Issues:
- Forks have begun weeping oil
- Carbs seem to have a very slow leak from the bowl seals, I noticed some old gas residue when I took it out a few days ago, wiped it down and nothing has reappeared since.
- Needs frame petcock.

I am in the process of ordering parts and addressing these outstanding issues.  When the work is done I expect to ask $1200 for the bike.  If you want to work on the bike yourself and save me the effort then you'll also save yourself some money.  Make me a realistic offer (no lowballing).  Bike is titled in Ohio since I just moved to MD recently. I have some extra parts laying around - Old valve cover (paint was flaking), Set of forks (still in ohio but should arrive to me this week).

With a little love this will be a great first bike for someone learning to ride or an excellent high mpg commuter.
