Breaking Bad

I was looking through the chemistry of making meth.
Because I'm tired of being smart yet broke.

Talked with my professor about it this morning.  (Swapping the secondary -OH group giving levo chirality with maybe tosylate or potassium permanganate.)
About 200 people were entertained as the straight-arrow prof and I basically drew out the process for a hard core drug in detail.
Chalk dust flying.
Hairdo's mangled.
Coed breasts heaving in desire.
"But what about this way?"  Scrabble, scrabble, dust dust dust
"No, no, the sulfur stays here"  scrabble scrabble
"The street guys don't like it there, it tastes bad."  dust dust, erase, erase
"Well, use the chromate"
"The chromate's too expensive"
And so on.

It was related to the day's discussion (-OH conversion, simple halides and such).
The funny part?
Besides teaching 200 people how to make meth?
He drew it all from memory, with barely a stutter.
Tenure's gotta be awesome... O0

I've had some pretty cool teachers.  They are human, like anyone else, and it can get boring standing in front of the class reciting the same curriculum, year after year.   They welcome the chance to do something a little different, or to have a bit of a professional challenge.  I bet he enjoyed the hell out of it!

Subject matter aside, he knew he had your interest and he ran with it.   It's a good sign of a teacher who can think on his feet like that!
On those days when life is a little too much and nothing seems to be going right, I pause for a moment to ponder the wise last words of my grandfather:  "I wonder where the mother bear is?"

My best friend is a teacher. It's weird to think about her acting like a normal teacher.

I saw one episode of that show. It was the one where there was a fly in the room and Hal spent the entire episode trying to kill it. It was an interesting show but I don't have cable anymore, so that's probably all I'll ever see.

Can't discuss any of the show; just the premise.
I only keep a television for movies.

Yeah, he's a great guy.  I'm paying 2 universities now, just to take his class.
Proof of "you get what you pay for".
My old university could only afford foreign professors - a Chinese physicist that couldn't pronounce "energy" for example.  Yeah - really.

Edit:
The physicist specialized in weather radar, but they kicked him off the team in China.  After the last few sandstorms that hit Beijing, and the particle-physics tracking software went t!ts-up.
Did you guys hear about that?  It hit right when the elementary schools dismissed classes, as the kids were walking home.  Ugly.
