luckily I caught it before it ruined the stator, its for a 95 motor, but all these will fit it.

goats syndrome is where the magnets come loose from the rotor, and wreck everything on that side of the crankcase.  I heard the noise very early, and took it apart before it damaged anything else.  therefore, I now need a new rotor  :thumb:

I'll sell you that shaft piece, if that's what you need.

ugh that happened to mine. new rotor and stator were definitely in order. it took FOREVER to get the rotor off. basically ruined the puller from autozone. had to hammer on the rotor while slide-hammering on the tool.

bigfatcat

I want to inspect mine - do you have to drain the oil before removing the left side cover ? ?

technically no, but the oil will come out when you take the cover off

No, with the right sliding hammer ... and the right part that you use to hammer is heavy heavy heavy and has big fat handles you can grip and let it rip ... I made some that was seriously over kill, but on my 89 seriously it was on tight ... anyway, it will come off ... but remember, the bike can easily fall on top of you ... I had to strap it in the back of my truck and had to whack it ... not easy.
I sent it to someone in the site and it never came back ... presumably someone is using it to hold his boat down in hurricane season.

I  ended up using an air chisel with a punch tool in it to remove mine, as the puller didnt have an appropriate tool to attach to the rotor.  I caught mine in time that I didnt have to replace the stator, just lightly sanded the outside edge where it was scuffed from the magnets.  I didnt drain the oil first, but had a drain pan under the engine, and oil went everywhere.  I did drain the oil afterwards though, and replaced the filter while I was at it.  all is well now.

Are these rotors compatible even with the lesser amount of magnets???  I've done some searching and am still uncertain.  I wouldn't mind paying 1/4 of the price for a 550 rotor that will work rather then a 500 rotor thats a little too expensive for me right now.

The Buddha

That list from jeremy_nash is off a parts number cross reference list. The listed bikes all have the same rotor. So 550 or 450 or whatever isn't lesser magnets, its the same number of magnets cos its the same part.

that was a compatibility list for replacement parts.  DGYVER has used a rotor with fewer magnets, off a gs450, with no ill effects.  he posted such in this thread,    http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=52561.0

Oh well i already paid the 130 for the gs500 rotor...

But its my own mistake for blowing my engine in the first place so lesson learned.

Custom Blue

I have a rotor that will fit.  It's in good condition.  There's a slight rust tarnish on small areas but that will scrub right off with steel wool and elbow grease.

The rotor tip has no damage.  Message me and I can send you pics in regular email.

Thanks

jeremy_nash

I bought one from buddha, so I'm good to go, but thanks!
