Engine looses power, Overheating ???

I just bought a 94 GS500 with 10700 miles on it and for the 1st 150 miles (10 miles roundtrip to work) I don't seem to have no problem but today while riding in the afternoon I noticed that the engine was hotter than normal (I can feel it throught the lower part of the gas tank) also after a while of riding I noticed that I looses power even though I open the throtlle it seems like theres no gas or won't go forward and then when I slow down for a stop and downshift  to 1st and stop,  the engine idles lower than normal (around 400 rpm) then dies and it will start only after maybe 5 minutes with the choke on and will run but a little poorly.   One time  after I got it to start and get back on the road  the engines dies again this time while still on gear and slowing down to a stop sign.
             I also would like to add that that bike was fully warmed up  and today I was upshipting around 6-7000 rpm and its warmer than the previous days so I don't know if this has something to do with it.   I ride longer before  have no problem at all.   How would I know if I'm overheating?  thanks Derick

If it's overheating your rpm's will actually go up. It's really hard to get these bikes to overheat though. Only in stop and go traffic, without lanesplitting on a dry, hot day with no wind on a completely stock bike that hasn't been jetted properly so that it's sooo lean that the oxygen ignites without a spark.

On yours though, it probably is because it's just a completely stock bike that hasn't been jetted properly. Also, check your gas, see if you have enough gas; it might be your petcock not allowing enough gas to the carburetors. Also, try switching to Pri and then Res and see how it acts.

Make sure that your choke cable isn't sticking - that it's returning all the way to the OFF position.  Once my bike is fully warmed up, if I have accidentally left the choke on even a little it will die when I throttle down for a stop.

oil?, not for sure if you've checked that yet, but low oil can cause overheating

I think I figured out what the problem was,  I was low in gas even though it looks like thereis a lot in it.  So if I did switch the petcock to res or prime I think that would have solve the problem.  Or maybe I have a faulty petcock thats create vacuum leak when I'm low in gas (maybe after 150 miles).  So far everythings ok again after I put in 2.4 gallons in it and rode for  for a long time.
