Monster seat on an old style tank?

I really want a rear seat cowl to help tie my paint job ideas for the bike together, but it looks like the options are pretty sad for the GS seat. I'm not giving cowltech $160 for something that a lot of people say fits poorly. A Bandit 400 cowl seems hard to find and I don't want to go right into hacking up a new part. I'm tempted to spend $50 on the supplies and fiberglass my own. A Ducati Monster seat is an option, but I really don't want to replace the tank. 1.) I'm on a super tight college kid budget and don't want to spend another $100, and 2.) this one is already primed and lookin seggsy, and I don't wanna do that again on another one.

So, I was wondering if anyone had tried to fit the monster seat to an old style tank, and if they had any pictures of the fitment? I'm either going to do this or take crash course in 'glassin and make my own.  8)

Doesn't give you quite the result you would hope for. If you're gonna switch to a seat like that you'd really do best to change the tank. I swapped my tank for one of the newer ones and it automatically makes the bike feel 15 years newer, which is nice. I got mine for free because some guy traded me an unused newer tank for my beat up old spray painted por-15ed tank, I still feel like he might've been crazy  :dunno_black: haha, but they can be had for not too much money if you keep an eye out. You'll pay more for the ducati seat and cowl than you would the tank I'm sure.

Browse OCDs build, the seat business is about 2/3rds the way down on this page... http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=50448.20

I paid $150 shipped for an '04 tank.  I did not know I was needing one until I started the build.  Te older style tank WILL NOT fit the Monster seat.  Not even enough to try unless you really don't care.

My seat was $115, and the cowl was $50.

Thanks for the info, I'd rather spend $50 and make my own cowl for the seat I have I think.

It might be possible if you were to uncover a seat, trim the seat pan and foam, and recover it, that it would fit up against the GS seat, but I doubt it would look all the clean. I had to reshape the front of the seat that's currently on my GS. You already said you were gonna try to make one, so obviously I'm just rambling at this point.
