I NEED HELP REALLY BAD

I have fouled two sets of plugs now within two weeks havent even rode the bike 3 miles i rejetted my carbs put 145s in and 40s it has aftermarket slip on muffler pod style filters and the modded timing advance i understand i need to adjust my floats but i dont really get how you are supposed to measure am i supposed to make them while they are upside down as close to the metal piece without touching or what?  This bike was a total overhaul and I am so frustrated I just want to ride it i drilled the brass pieces out and turned the screws underneath 2 turns The bike runs really really rich i even put premium gas 93 octane in it thinking this might help my friend keeps telling me i need to put stock jets back in it but after looking at the site it seems like my problem is the float height.  The bike is blowing black smoke out the exhaust and my plugs are jet black at the tips and it rubs off on your hand

how many washers are you using under the needles?  And when you say you turned the mixture screw 2 turns, do you mean you screwed it all the way in and then unscrewed it 2 turns?  Or something different?

you can check the float height easily with the carbs on the bike.  stick about a foot of clear tube over the drain nipple on the bottom of the float bowl.  then hold the other end well above the carb.  turn the petcock to prime and loosen the nipple until gas flows into the tube.  the gas should rise up to the level of the gasket that seals the float bowl.  if you don't have gas squirting way up above the carbs on both sides, whatever brass peice you drilled out is probably the problem, and not the floats.  if the jet was what you drilled out then stock jets should be better. 

high octane gas will not help if it is running lean

I did a rejet on the bike and you know the brass piece that covers up the screws on the bottom of the carbs they say you have too drill out on the carb rejet matrix on the poor mans guide they are the pilot air screws based on his site

I screwed the pilot air screw all the way in and unscrewed it 2 turns I am using 2 washers under the needles but my question is should they be snug with the Clip and the top ring on the needle? 

I tried checking the float levels today and i bought too big of hose but i tried it anyway and it didnt work too well my friend tells me to go back to stock jets but based on this site and with the mods like the slip on muffler timing advance and pod style filters i believe i shouldn't

I didn't drill out any jets i just unscrewed the old jets and put 145 mains in place of the 122.5 and 40 pilots in place of the 37.5's

I really appreciate everyones help I just wanna ride it i have been building this bike now for 6 months and haven't even road it 3 miles yet.

the washers need to be up against the clip. it sounds like the washers wont go all the way on the needles holding the needle up too high causing a severe rich condition.

Also use regular gas, even with the timing advance it will run best on regular

What do you mean by the washers should go up against the clip?  I have the washers sandwiched in between the C clip and the top part of the needle that looks like a built in washer attached too  the needle



Ok this is my needles the one on the right is what they look like when i put them in the carbs with the larger doughnut on top then the c clip then the 2 washers and then the smaller doughnut

Put a better pic up, your needle looks like it has a lot of wear on the shaft.
The washers need to go under the e clip not on top as you put it ... but it will make it leaner as you ahve it, and its not making it rich. You have another issue. Floats or needle.
GS needles are uncommon to have worn like your pic seems to suggest, but its common on high mileage GSXR's which have the same carbs so maybe its just that GS'es aren't run into the 50's and 60K's.

Hey I went to the suzuki dealership today and he told me i need new o rings for my part that the float sits in its #34 on cheapcycleparts.com under the carb section because he said they are not really snug enough where he thinks gas might be seeping out through there.

Could i get by with buying an o ring from a parts store that fits snuggly in there? 

If not does anyone have any of these o rings and if so how much shipped to indiana 47785? 

Could this be my problem?

I got new jets 150s and 132.5s which should i use?

did you find out if the float height is incorrect?  If gas was not filling the tube up above the height of the carbs than the floats and the needle and seat are not the issue. 

If you want to replace the seat, you should order a new needle and seat as a pair, but you should make sure to properly check your float height as it seems unlikely that this, or your float height is the problem since it is affecting both cylinders more or less evenly. 

I would find a piece of tube of the right size and do the check before you go tearing into the float bowl and replacing stuff.  It sounds more like your setup is just too rich.

I had issues wit my carbs flooding, the o-rings were the culprit, I replaced the o-rings on the floats and the seat, I got them at ace hardware (dont know if u have those up there), were in cents.

This is the piece that I am talking about that the guy at Suzuki said i need a new O Ring on
Could this be my problem why it is running really rich because the O Rings are shot?

It might be worth putting the ignition back to normal incase its to far advanced? If persists try the 132 jets and 1 washer.

I put new O rings on it put the 132.5 jets in it new spark plugs it starts up and runs perfectly i ride it around block runs great  Get it home try to start it again wont start at all it just acts like its gonna start but it wont turn over what is going on now?

sounds like it may be flooded.  How do the plugs look now?  they will need to be pulled to get the extra fuel out if it is flooded.  If that is the case and it was running properly, then there may be something wrong with the petcock/needle and seat allowing fuel in when there is already enough fuel in the float bowl

I checked the plugs they looked alright i guess it still wont start checked both plugs made sure boot connected properly and everything thought it might be battery its been on charge still wont start i had it running ran great started it ran fine then it died and wont start at all what settings should i have the petcock on the tank at meaning which side should the open end be facing left right up or down?  Which setting should my frame mounted petcock be mounted?  If it flooded would my plugs be bad now?  What do you mean by the needle?

If the plugs are not fouled then they should be fine.  Will the engine crank with no plugs in it?  If it was flooded this will make the extra gas shoot out the spark plug hole. 

If the battery was drained to the point that the ignition shut off then that is probably a charging system issue.

The petcock should usually be on "on" but if the carbs are not getting enough fuel "prime" can be tried, although this sounds like the opposite of the problem you have been fighting with.  I believe there is a diagram that shows tangle of tubes leading to and from the petcock on the sight somewhere, perhaps search for petcock routing or something like that.

i know i have hoses routed properly it just seems like its not gettin gas now for some reason or spark bc ir ran fine then i started it ans it ran fine then died and now wont start it tries but it just cranks
