I know most of you want to lower the handlebars but for me bending over just isn't comfortable. So I decided to get the SW-Motech handlebar risers. They increase height by 31mm (1.2") and move them back 25mm (1"). I got them from  Twisted Throttle for $104 shipped. Since they are in Rhode Island and I live only a few hour north in New Hampshire I got them over night.

I am happy with the riding position now. I have noticed my right hand doesn't go numb after riding a while and my back is much happier too.

Here are some pics of the risers on my 97 GS

Thanks offcamber... risers are in my future.  What's your height? I'm 6'2".

I'm 5'11".....

I'll add the cable lengths are very close. I had to wire tie the throttle cable to hold it in a specific place because when I moved the wheel from side to side it would get caught on a bracket and cause the throttle to race. It would only do it when you moved the bars full left which I almost never do. All the other cables and wires I was able to reroute to get enough length.

I put risers on my 97 GS back in 99 when I bought it new, I was 6' 2" then with a 30" inseam as I was most of my adult life.  I transferred the same risers to my current 02 GS in 03 and am still using them but I'm only a little over 5' 11" now and a 29" inseam is getting a bit long.  I have the GenMar risers which move bars up 1" and back 1 3/8".  My GenMars have about 150k miles on them now.   :thumb:

I have the SWs. They do what they are supposed to do.

I have a set of RoxspeedFXs from my TW200. They have a rubber vibration layer between the bolt together parts, I am gonna try to fit them to the GS. They are also more adjustable. And more $.

In the TW world people put on heavy aluminum bars that are said to reduce vibrations. I will try that as well but think its a question of vibration frequency and harmonics so I might get lucky but heavy bars are not automatically better.

Next step is go back to SV with its nicely balanced v-twin, maybe next spring. The GS vibrates a bit too much at 55 and up for me.

I was looking at handlebar risers since i have noticed that on longer rides my wrists become uncomfortable.  I saw these on ebay and wondered if anyone had any opinions on whethere or not they would work or would it not be a good idea to get them for any reason.  Looks like a cool idea how they are adjustable to how much up and back you want the bars but don't know how stable they will be due to the adjustability factor.

I'm sure they would work but 3.5" might be to much. Also with that much rise you WILL need to get longer throttle, brake and choke cables as well as extending electrical wires.

they also make a 2" which would be closer to the 1.2" up 1" back.  It would move the entire handlebar back and additional .5".  I may try these and then post up how they work and if any cables need to be longer or if they are all just re-routable.  Will wait and see if a few more people chime in before i go ahead and order them.

You know I would like to know the answer to this myself. I bought the bike used about a month and half a go...it was on there...fairly certain they are not the stock handlebars. However I owned a 94 GS and something in the back of my mind remembers there was an option for that bar but I don't know what its for....I was going to mount a clock to it...may dampen some vibration? Who knows?

Anyone know??

Deros514

I seen those types of bars at the local shops. They're for dirt bikes...at least that's what they sell them for.

Shaddow

Could the bar not be for mounting stuff like a navman or something?

T1z3R

the bar is just a brace for extra support.

extra support for the handle bar? man if that thing bent you need to stop going off 10ft jumps.
