Advice before I drill out the pilot jet

My GS500 came with a good amount of lacquer inside the carbs from a 4 year sit fest in storage.  I cleaned the carbs completely and put them back together and have a running bike but after riding another buddy's GS500 I'm convinced that mine idles rough.  The choke operation is kind of 'blocky,' meaning that I have to really fiddle with it to get it to sit right while warming up. 

Now, I'm not saying that I want to do anything more complicated than put a clean pilot jet in each carb, and it would probably just be easiest to put in brand new and clean jets in their place.  Anyone know the size, and source?  And when people say 'drill out the plug,' I don't actually know what that means... I'm just pretending!

if the carb had never been fiddled with, there's a brass plug that covers where the idle air mix screws is (one on each carb)
you can buy a jet kit from buddha for 25 i think, and that'll give you the jets needed for whatever setup you tell him youre running.

you should also look into a "rebuild" kit. there are mixed opinions but basically they come with new o-rings and new float needles. theyre not too pricey and it goes well if youre cleaning everything out and putting new stuff in anyways.

+1.  And if you're jets are stock, definitely recommend going up one size to 40 on the pilot jet.  And probably one or two sizes on the main jet, too.

I just rejetted yesterday! Wow what a difference. If you are running stock exhaust and filter you need 20, 132.5, and60. Oh yeah two washers under the oh what's the name the needles?.  I also did three turns out on the mixture!
