Hi
I was just browsing motorcycles online and came across a yoshimura Slip on for CBR 900. My friend told me that because its just a slip on it should fit and I am going to take a look at it, but does anyone know off hand if it will fit to the stock pipes?
Also, the guy is selling them for $170 cdn (no shipping required); is this a good deal? I have not really been looking, but if its a good deal I want to jump on it.

If you want to go that route get one for a 500-600cc bike, not a 900.  You can adapt the size needed for the pipe if needed.  Your local muffler shop would do it cheap.
V&H pipes, K&N drop-in, seat by KnoPlace.com, 17/39 sprockets, matching grips, fenderectomy, short signals, new mirrors - 10 scariest words: "I'm here from the government and I'm here to help!"

the stock muffler needs to be cut off, yes its welded on from the factory. and yes any (good) exhaust shop can install one
07 black GS500F; fenderectomy, NGK DPR9EIX-9 plugs, 15T sprocket, Jardine exhaust, K&N lunchbox, 20-62.5-152.5 jets 1 washer, timing advance 6*, flushmount signals,Tommaselli clipons over tree, sv650 throttle, 20w forkoil, sport demon tires, Buddha fork brace, Goodridge SS lines, double bubble

Anything will fit with enough fabrication. But you're friend may be misleading you - there are often major differences in muffler design for different bikes. In most cases, the connection to the mid-pipe is the most significant change from model to model.

It depends on how badly you want a yosh.  You can usually find a decent slip-on for about $100.

For around the same price you can get a great Delkevic slip on for the 500. Search eBay for a 98 - 02 R6 (they have the same midpipe diameter) It's a direct bolt on, but you'll need to space out the exhaust at the hanger with a couple of thick washers for the can to clear the swingarm.

Here's a picture of mine with the 18" slipon.

I have recently laid my bike down in my gravel driveway (too much front break + gravel driveway = new look for my bike) and I am considering getting the Delkevic carbon slipon now. It's about 14" long I think.

Here's a list of all the Delkevicslipons that will work for the GS.

Wow after listening to the sound clips for other twins (SV650 and Ninja 500) I'm totally sold on the Delkevic slip ons...awesome deep tone, but still very smooth, not too choppy/open. As much as I'd like to rock a 9" aesthetically, the 14" carbon should be awesome. Did you use the supplied mid pipe? Thanks!

jonathanneely

Yep, I cut it 2" after the 2 in 1 joint. I used the supplied mid-pipe and it all bolted on no problem. I picked up 2 thick washers (1/8" width) from the hardware store to space the pipe out from the swing arm. I also used a large nut inside the hole of the hanger on the frame for the bolt to pass through to make a more solid mount rather than just using the rubber bushing that was on there. I put washers on the other side to prevent it from slipping through, tightened the nut and done.

Carbon sounds nice, but it's really fragile, impossible to repair, and prone to failing even when cared for. There are some trade-offs for that pretty sound.

jdbutler13

You guys sold me on the Delkevic slip ons; prolly go with the a carbon fibre stubby.

I went ahead and picked up one of the 14" ss ones. Went on fairly easily. Sounds nice. Looks good. Center stand had to come off. Here are some pics.

I used some nylon washers sandwiched between two steel washers as a spacer.

Looks good man!  :thumb:

One other thing that I forgot to mention to you though is that I believe I cut the supplied midpipe about 2 inches shorter on the end that connects to the header. Then I cut some slits in the end (4) to allow it to be tightened down with the clamp. That all made it slide into the supplied hanger better. Otherwise, it looks great!

I thought about the same thing, and was going to ask you. But once it all got put together I like the angle and so forth.

On that fairing, that is a Powerbronze pan I got from Superbikestore.com. You can pick one up here http://www.superbikestore.com/gs500.htm the bike that is pictured on the site is my bike before I painted it the burnt copper.

Yours looks good man. I'm considering the carbon pipe but I'm loving the Ixil Shorty Oval slip-on but not loving hte $350 price tag it comes with.

No, I was tempted to see how I would like it. I might try later this week. I leave for work pretty early in the morning, and don't want a situation where I am waking the neighbors.
