Fork lower interchangeability

Hello all,
I have quick question to the knowledgeable.
I ride a '92 GS500, stock.  In the last 3 years, I've had to change the left fork seal 5 times.  I've already replaced the inner tube and various other internals.  Still the leak keeps coming back.  I am now considering picking up a used outer tube and swapping in my new OEM inner tube.  My question, are later model outer tubes too different to use with my '92?  I am specifically looking at a 2002 tube on eBay.  Follow up question:  I see from the schematics that most of the internal components are the same (eg same part number), with the exception of the fork seal itself.  So what's the difference in fork seals?  I assume that with an '02 lower I would need to use the '02 seal as well.

Thanks!

I'm almost positive that all the parts are interchangeable. If fork seals have different numbers it's most likely that they started making them out of something different and more durable, but they probably all still fit in the same. I'm sure someone will come along that will know for sure, but I'd say I'm 99% confident.
