Put iridium plugs into Phenix and Suzi. I'll see if I notice any difference. Just in warming them up, none really (raining - didn't take them out)
Plugs I took out look OK.
Suzi L, R  then Phenix L, R. Onbly looks like Suzi's left plug was not in tight due to the oil up the threads. Phenix's were in only for 40 miles so not really a good indicator. And why do wrench sets skip 18mm which is spark plug size?

Dropped waterproof Pentax pocket camera into a bucket of used oil from Junior. It seems to have survived! Glad it wasn't my phone - it was in the same pocket of my adidas hoodie (no I am not a criminal for wearing a hoodie)

adidasguy

Pulled Junior's motor. (Pix in project thread).
Now depressed that I'm at a major stopping point until I get another set of hands to put an engine together. So I'll clean up and hope for good riding weather. Junior will have to wait.

Sanding, filling, sanding, filling on the tank, hope to be done on the weekend or early next week.

primed everything except the tank, paying special attention to that. Happy cinquo de mayo!
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Took head of Juniors engine and identified the "missing" bearing sleeves on the balancer. (See Junior's thread).
Prepping spare bottom end. Need to remember to remove oil before tipping it on its side. (Bike Cave floor is oil-proof epoxy.) Took pictures. Posted video of the bad bearing in HD!
Now I drained oil from the spare bottom end.

Tomorrow I plan to take off the side covers. Move into the alley. Gently pour/dribble clean oil all over that bottom to flush out anything in there. Anyway, it is easier to see what is going on when looking through clean oil rather than black oil. Will help flush out any dirt that fell in.

I will post pictures in Junior's thread.

Plan is to get everything ready to re-assemble an engine next Saturday. That would be time to ordcer all the #3's (from another post) where I meant the bearing deals, clutch push rod seal, and any other seal I find in the parts listr that is not in a gasket kit and does not require the engine to be split.

OK - fixing up Junior was #1, learning to paint candy colors and make a fugley bike into a cool cafe-inspired bike.
Intensive parts replacements if Trey due to bad PO was #2
Building Phenix was #3 Quite a jump in my abilities. Since he was born April 28, I have 50 miles on him as of today.
Replacing bottom end of Junior's motor (keep same jugs, pistons and top end) is #4. Still in progress.

Next major project when there is a expert to help (i.e. someone who did it before) is #5: split the case and fix Junior's engine. Also open up the free 2006 engine and see what migfht be causing the oil light to come on after 20 minutes,. Then go off if you wait 5 minutes. It was free, I can always part it out.

Other free 1989 engine with bad win for timing cam will be parted out.

So that's what I did today and start tomorrow.

Overall  a nice bike day since I'm relieved I didn't cause Junior's engine to fail. The bearing had to be going bad for a long time or just suffered from metal fatigue. It was a 1992 engine. No problems until now.

It was nice so I rode Phenix to the gym and around Alki beach.

Soon, with some help will some stage 5 - splitting the case.

Ordered a pair of Shad panniers, also ordered an oil temp gauge kit and an oil pressure gauge kit.

I think I'm going to need a project bike before Abby turns into an evil queen of after-market add-ons.  :icon_lol:  :icon_lol:  :icon_lol:

I'm so pissed at the motorcycle shop   :icon_twisted:

Finally, got the money to mount Flick's new shoes took them in on Sat so I would have time to mount them on Sat evening and be back on the road Sunday. Get them home (shop put them in the back of the truck for me) I was getting ready to put the rear tire on. Guess what? The put the damned tire on backwards!  They are closed untill Tuesday!! I'm beyond pissed because my bike is down for 3 days now and I don't have back up transportation. I got lucky and my friend is not using his truck. But, in those 3 days I'll most likely spend about $40 in gas where I'd normaly spend $15.

I'm buying my own tire irons and doing it my danged self next time. Krap does this piss me off!

Got 2 extra keys for Phenix. Rode him today and he got his picture taken for the picture contest.
Moving on to the "acceptance" stage of grief over Junior so going to store for food then will catch up on pulling parts lists for a couple people.
Then going to work towards the merging of 2 engines to make a running one for Junior. Maybe I'll video putting on a top end. Is there one already for that topic?

slipperymongoose

Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Moved them out of the garage so I could deal with all the moving boxes after our move and begin sorting out the garage.

Sat here at work with nothing to do, but drool over my photos of the installed Gimbel rearsets. Dreaming of another weekend of wrenching!!

I've worked all the architects out of billable work. Successfully did the next to last thing on my Don't Want To Do List(bottom of the barrel busy work..) and cleaned the archive room. Now don't feel like knocking the last one off that list and start painting our oldest flat file cabinets :technical: Maybe I'll work on finishing my autocad template files i started a while back
