Nothing to my bike specifically, but i got a tool kart!! :)

Checked for vacuum leaks (didn't find any) and got it inspected. Next step is balancing the carbs, and if that doesn't get rid of the dead spot, I'll shim the needles. Hopefully that'll solve the problem, but if not, a rejet may be in order.

I'd recommend 125 mains, 40 pilots, and 1 washer and about 3 turns or so out.

Replaced bashed-up right footpeg bracket, with ebay'd one.

that was much more interesting than the left side, since I got to deal with the master whatsit for the rear brake.
I had to depress the brake pedal thingie a teenie bit, to get the thing to line up with the screw holes. Is that normal? Or should I fiddle with the adjuster thingie so that the brake pedal is all the way up touching the other metal bit?

RossLH

Ordered new jets as per bombsquad's recommendation (thanks man!), rode the bike for 20 miles, and sat on the side of the road for half an hour when it broke down. It seems to have lost a quart and a half of oil, and the trans case was HOT. Put some more oil in it and limped it home, but it is not happy right now. There seems to be a slow drip coming from behind the chain cover, and there is oil on top of the chain. I'll pull the chain cover this weekend and investigate....hopefully its something simple. :dunno_black:

converted 3 of the three warning lights to T5 LEDs, going to post in one of the LED threads about the turn LED, seems the reversing polarity buggers it up.

We already covered that: you use 2 diodes to make a mod to the wiring to the turn indicator. Wiring diagram and pictures were posted of how to do that.

On older bikes you can get a bi-polar (i.e.non polarized) LED in the T-10 size either green or amber depending on the vintage of your bike. Or use a standard LED and do the 2 diode modification.

Sorry - just noticed you're new here.

Welcome to the nut house!

Here's a link for the diode modification

Added USB power outlet to Phenix. Also added tank pad. The old OEM gel seat is really comfy on the tuckus for day trips to the twisties.

(The LED next to the USB outlet is a battery monitor idiot LED. Green=OK, red=low, orange=over 15v)

yes thank you for the info in the LED thread, I did end up wiring in two diodes and then rewiring them when they were wrong way around. :technical:  couldn't get non polarised LEDs in T5 unfortunately.

Looks good Max .. Where'd you source that mini top fairing? ... Mate of mine has a cbr900 frankenbike he just bought and is looking for ideas to tidy it up .. His headlight pattern is pretty much the same

Went for a ride around the block today on the Boulevard and took a photo halfway round

For the Yanks, Poms and others, That is Mt Warning in the background. It is the first place in the East Coast of Australia that sees the sun in the morning as well as the first thing Captain Cook saw upon approaching this great nation.

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Took Phenix for a ride through the twisties of Skagit County. Fun riding with liter (litre for you Brits and Ausies) bikes. Phenix can easily go over 90 mph - and rides so smooth and stable.

I love how the guys with the new liter bikes admire Phenix - both for how clean he looks and how they really do like the styling of the GS500.

Only issue seems to be a little slow accelerating from 75 to 90 in order to pass a car before the next curve (well, compared to the liter bikes and there were 5 of us that had to pass together). A good WOT works. Maybe it would have a little more pep if I down shifted to 5th gear?  :dunno_black:  One thing I do know is the Brisk plugs really give Phenix more get up and go. Not really complaining - I don't think we can expect the GS500 to pop wheelies when going 75 to 90 mph. Other than the high speed passing sluggishness (compared to them) my GS500 never fell behind.

I did get 63 mpg this weekend.

Had a lot of fun and Phenix performed like a champ. Temp was in the 80's - a really really hot day for us Seattle-ites used to the 50's and 60's. Long day: 8 hours and 200 miles (with lunch break, gas and picture stops).

I did a quickie 30 second color adjustment. Background was full, bright sun with NO CLOUDS! (yea, rare for us up here in the PNW). We were in the shade and original had us really bluish. I'll do a better adjustment later.

It was beautiful today.

By the way - it is NOT a good idea to fall in the river in your leathers.

stoked with the success of my LED conversion, I did a front fork pre-load spacer upgrade.  first tried going from 205mm to 245mm.  felt OK, but came back to 225mm and feel its the best of both worlds.  fork is firmer and better under braking and cornering without being overly stiff as it was at 245mm.  can't believe how much of a difference it makes, its like a new bike.

all in all a great weekend for my GS. :D

I have a much simpler answer to the indicator tell-tale modification. I just used a standard (but good quality) 6 volt T5 globe. It was an experiment and has been perfectly successful. As the light flashes, and it is mostly at idle when the voltage drops a little there is not enough "on" time for filament to get hot enough to "blow". Mine has been in there over 12 months with no problem. Being a standard tungsten filament it still produces a "yellow" light so the colour of the flashing light is still the same as standard, just brighter. It is not quite as bright as the LEDs but not far off. With the LED bulb my neutral light is now a different colour to the indicator tell-tale so effectively I now have four different colours.
I hope this might be some help as it is so simple but works.

Cheers
Macka
