Welding job done in exchange for the gel seat by nortwestrider
200 lb granite bowl
1/4" thick steel in base all welded together (designed by local artist Gabe Marquez http://gabemarquez.com/
Will eventually go in an open area behind the Bike Cave as a planter focal point. Need to make concrete footings for it.
It will remain unfinished to naturally rust. Being so thick, it has 30 years before it rusts away. Can clear coat it once rust gets at the ideal state.
Not what I did for my bike, but what Nortwestrider did in exchange for the seat for Trey. Trey is getting so much love now - makes me happy he has a good home.

what i did for my bike today ... well yesterday now ...  :icon_rolleyes:

got a pinkslip for rego in the morning... had an earlymark from work so went home and decided to properly repair my previous "good enough" bridge wiring job on the flickering headlight/lowbeam issue.. its been coming back lately. i knew i had to remove the tank to get at the repair .. and the cables were cable tied up on the frame to keep away from engine heat (which was the original cause of fault)

and last night was 'coffee ride with the boys' night .. it was also rego runs out at midnight till i get my tax chq back to pay for more rego in about 2 weeks! ... AND this saturday is my wrist surgery day so no riding for a few weeks most likely ... so i was real keen to squeeze in a last minute ride with 'the posse' ...

THEN ... (and all the following took less than 15 min!) .. Took the seat off .. all good.. undid the tank mount bolts, as i pulled out the right side one i heard "tink tink tunk" looked down to see the little square nut from the inside of the mount on the ground .. so 'sigh thats a pain! but i reckon i can hold it up in place while i put it back on later ... lifted tank slightly to turn petcock off.. all good .. moved pinch clips down off the fuel hoses easy, pulled gently at front hose...... which suddenly split down one side about 2 inches!.. not so good! but possibly enough hose remaining to trim and put back on for the night, removed other hose no prob and the tank vent hose no prob..... so... minor issues but can get around it all... i then lifted the top part of the cable tie so i could cut it and get at the right side plug/harness/headlight wire section .. it resisted lifting slightly then suddenly went very loose ... odd! .. cut the cable tie and started looking at how/what needed replacing ... looking looking.... looking.... deciding.... planning...

hmm .. whats that odd 5mm end of cable thingy sticking up just there?!?!? ... looking down along the lead to see it terminate at the right cylinder sparkplug cap!!... definately sposed to be connected to something... while originally repairing/bodging/cabletie-ing the headlight wiring i had gone under the right plug lead ... and while pulling it up slightly (it wasnt tight just acting as a hanger) .. i pulled the end of the lead out of the right coil ...  ... very heavy sigh and dark mutterings of "oh i'm a SPECIAL kind of retard!" .. just to check i shoved the lead back into the coil bit and the bike did turn over and run fine for a few seconds on residual fuel in carbs ..

.. but to ride with a cable that might vibrate out at any time leaving me a cylinder short? .. naahhhHH!!!

sat back on my milk crate (handy dandy workshop seat!) and after about 10 seconds of face-palm time .. decided to be philosophical about the whole thing... with this many minor then major issues that (yes thru my own fault and gumbi-ness) suddenly happened.. on the last night of my rego ... while i am only riding around real easy like cos it hurts my wrist (but i gotta ride a bit!) .. i figure it was a sign!....

so I still went to coffee night .. drove the ute in and had a great time chatting with the mates and ogling the passerby chicky-babes .. but i'm thinking i avoided trouble .. the way it was going i probably woulda had a piano drop on me from a ufo... or been struck by lightning... or spontaneously exploded!!...

so .. i broke my bike in a few different ways... but i'm alive and breathin and philosophical about it all!  :thumb:

A pinkslip for your rego meaning they're revoking it? Or you have to renew it. Sucks about the hose and the spark plug wire, pretty sure the plug wire can be forced back in and glued/taped if you're going to be riding for a bit.

I finished painting my cowl. I tried to polish the windshield on it but the darn thing was too cloudy after so many years. I ended up painting it with plastidip. I'd love to put some chalkboard paint on, but I'm not sure how well that would work on a rounded surface. Going to hardware store tomorrow to pick up some last bits/pieces for the bracket, sharpie the screws black, mount it up and ride ride ride until the rain starts.

Paint is Rustoleum enamel black, then Rustoleum Metallic (shines blurple in the sun, blue in the shade). Clear coat is non-yellowing krylon (no eastmax this time), we'll see how it turns out.

A "Pinkslip" is a roadworthy for your vehicle. Its what they call it in NSW Australia. You need to get one every year to make sure your vehicle is safe to drive on the road.
I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

hmm yeah... in Ozzie.. well in NSW .. a pinkslip is a mechanic inspection road worthy certificate so the motor registry knows you aint driving/riding a shitbox or life hazard! .. in Victoria i think its a RoadWorthyCertificate .. and in queensland its probably the cost of a 6pak of beer "sheezcool" pubcoaster  ;)

its all an easy enough fix... i'm not that worried about it.... but i figured i was given 'message from the gods' that arvo ... stay my ass off the bike ... normally such breaks/problems would send me into a    ... but all i could do was sit back and laugh , the shout at the sky "yeah i hear ya!" ..

thats a nice neat cowl job there Dannybhoy! ..  :thumb:

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: thats an awesome little bit of engineering.... i'd be taking a patent out and doing some small production runs and marketing NorthWest ...  :)

it could probably also be marketed towards some of the skinny as a garden rake girlfriends of riders... bit of animal print covering and they'd love it... course it'd have to go with their cut-off shorts/t-shirt riding outfit ...  :icon_rolleyes:

It took me about a hour to build out of scrap,I may need to mod it a bit for the gel seat ( Trey had a stock seat when I built it ).

Here's the project that the scrap came from.

Today I discovered that a bike runs and starts better if the magneto/starter bolt is more than finger tight. No idea how that could come loose. That would explain why Phenix had charging issues and had trouble starting.

Then fulled up Phenix with fresh AmsOil and took him for a ride.

PS: checked on him. No oil drips. So the side covers must be all buttoned up and snug as a bug in a rug. Tomorrow Phenix will be my ride.

Still, I will do a valve check and carb sync on Saturday or Friday night. Tank is almost empty (which is the way I like it when I have to remove it). Want to complete all the maintenance that Phenix should have.

Pulled the carbs once again to prep for a rejet. I'm going to see how well I can get it running tomorrow with the bigger jets and a by-eye synchronization, but ultimately the left intake->carb boot needs to be replaced. Even if I can get it running tomorrow, the left side will likely be running lean due to a leak between the airbox and the left carb.

Somehow when he comes over I feel I am in an episode of "My Cat from Hell". Looks a lot like Jackson Galaxy AND they both are musicians. (By the way, I love that show and Jackson is really cool with cats. Oh, should we go back to the old cat thread?)

Either yesterday or today (around midnight timeframe) I found out that when removing washers from under the needle, to not torque the top carb screw too much.  It's an allen screw on a 3/8" ratchet, so there's torque.  Boogered up the threads on the carb.  Carb is made out of alloy, and is softer than steel (DUH).

Ordered a special tap to repair.  Runs for now with screw on hand tight.

Put the other mirrors on the 919 today. Test ride tomorrow. THEN, I shall have pics.

Cleaned my k&n lunchbox (filthy) and tightened up my carb clamps. Was running a bit strange, so air cleaner and carb clamps must have done the trick.
