5 years? holy crap and there's the guy on the forum trying to sort his gf's bike after 3 years under a tree............ shows what good maintenance and prepping can do hay

Yeah, I thought the same when reading that thread.  I kept my fuel stabilized, and drained/refilled it yearly.  My tank is absolutely spotless inside.  Also drained the carbs well and kept the bike frame and chain slathered in rust preventative.  Kept oily rags jammed in the muffler and intake ports, and had a fresh coat of paint on the exhaust to prevent rust.  Bike was under a cover, in a garage, clean, with a coat of wax on the shiny parts.  Did need new fuel lines and a battery, though.  Carbs back on, oil changed, fresh gas, and a new air filter.  Fired it up, adjusted the idle and the thing hauls ass. 8)

Ok so just picked Sasha up from the workshop, I asked them to replace the fuel lines, check the oil leak and give it a once over to make sure I'd done everything right and everything was done to the T very happy, had a couple of phone calls during the day to let me know what was going on, and got a good report at the end detailing everything, so fuel lines done, they were well past due apparently they were the originals so 10 years old, head gasket was crimped (my bad) so they replaced that, checked the carbs (were spot on) valves (spot on) chain and sprockets were fitted right, oh and cleaned out the petcock apparently it was full of a$$.

so shes all spot on and I can enjoy riding her again, huge weight off my mind all I gotta do is clean her again........ bloody fingerprints
You can run, but you'll only die tired.
If you hit it with a hammer and it doesn't fix it, you have an electrical problem

Yesterday... I pulled the clutch in... and the lever stayed pulled in...

Haven't pulled the sprocket cover off yet but I expect to find a broken cable, and of course noone in Brissie has stock so I won't get the new one 'til Monday.

I was just thinking the other day that my lever felt a bit stiff and that I should lube my cable real soon...  :technical:

Lube it anyway! ... It might just be real stuck?

Can't hurt if that is it... And if not you gonna pull the cable off anyway!  :dunno_black:

Applying Rutland Stove Polish to the pipes.

That looks killer I might have to look into getting some, my pipes are starting to look a little tired

Found out what's wrong with Matt's (Sea206) engine. I'm sure someone can fix it.

Zak and Gorilla were over. Nikinandy stopped over to get some free tail plastics.
Gorilla and Zak learned to hone cylinders by using some spares for practice before doing their cylinders.
And Zak got started on his school project. Engine almost back together. With so much going on today we made less peogress than hoped, but we all had fun and a good 9 hours of wrenching.

Installed the ZG Touring screen .. Went pretty good... Pics with some redneck engineering solutions to minor issues I had in a thread tmw

Dropped by adidasguy's place to pick up some interim tail plastics while I'm painting Betty. Sanded for hours, primered, sanded again for what felt like forever, then hit the tank and tail plastics with Betty's topcoat! About 10 hrs in the shop, but I'm making headway. I should have the stripe done soon and next week or two I'll be color sanding. Makeover nearly complete.

Sprocket cover and tank off today to remove the clutch cable... yep, definitely severed... about 1/4 way down from the lever end. I suspect I had a routing issue and it has been kinked for a while. Will need to double check routing when the new one goes in.

I also noticed with the sprocket cover removed that the front sprocket nut was loose... loctite and torque it back up right? Nup, bloody thread is stripped! Will have to get a new one plus lock washer  :technical: Fortunately the shaft thread looks ok.

Noticed the rear tyre was getting a bit dead in the centre the other day so a new Sport Demon is in the works there too, but I also noticed the rear sprocket wobbly on the axle.

Pulled the rear wheel out tonight, new wheel bearing time as well  :technical:

Will get the bearings and clutch cable tomorrow as I ordered the cable on Friday, but I have no idea if they have stock of the sprocket nut so I may be off the road a bit longer yet...

Bought a Suzuki blank on eBay last month as I don't have a spare key, and just got it cut today.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/171094047523

Was first skeptical when it arrived as the blank was noticeably longer than the key I already have. The engraver said that it doesn't matter because he'll just cut it lower, leaving some room at the top. He said however that he can't guarantee it will work. But it fit and turned perfectly, no jiggling, both sides, including the seat lock

Was only $2 for the blank.

Good stuff... the "key" to it all (haha) is does it fall out while riding?

And for me... I'd forgotten the fuse for my custom dash has blown each time I've ridden in rain lately, so I thought I'd best sort out the cause of that tonight.

Turns out that when I fixed my flyscreen, my headlight ended up adjusted just a little higher than it used to be and it's making contact with the insulation on the + feed to the relay that powers the dash. Obviously when it rains the contact encourages water to creep up and bam blown fuse.

A few strategically placed washers under the dash mount (I made it to mount in place of the stock gauges) and I now have a few mm's clearance like I used to. Problem solved I hope!

And my clutch cable arrived at the dealer today but the sprocket nut has to be ordered as they don't have stock and the dust seal for the rear wheel bearings also has to be ordered... and the lock washer for the sprocket nut is discontinued so I'll have to make do with the old one. Fingers crossed they're all in stock tomorrow and I can be on two wheels again Wednesday. The train is killing me!

He said however that he can't guarantee it will work.

Most key cutters guarantee cuts on their own blanks but not owner supplied blanks.  The reason being that they buy (generic) blanks dirt cheap and they sell them at a huge markup; if one doesn't work they can easily afford to use another blank and cut a new one.

Hey guys just wondering if I could ask a quick question in here. I figured I'd rather not make a whole thread for something so simple.
Any idea if this:

Will work on my 2005 GS500F? Are the connectors the same?

Made several unsuccessful attempts to remove the broken key tip or get the cylinder to go to "on"; finally covered that unsightly hole on the right engine cover with a proper emblem...

Can't wait to see that thing reassembled!
