I put air in the tires. They were both lower than I'd like to admit to.

I had neglected my front tire, and recently found it at 19 PSI after noticing some issues with the handling 😳

The new ones have been shipped! One is being FedEx'ed from Iowa, and the other via UPS from somewhere else in Ohio. Both should be here by Wednesday, which works out well because it's supposed to rain the later part of this week. The Honda dealer close to work charges $35/wheel for mounting and balancing. There's another place I'm going to call tomorrow to see if I can get a better deal...

My new tires arrived yesterday. I took the wheels off the GS and loaded them into my truck. I'm taking them over to the Honda dealer by my work to have them mounted on my lunch break today.

Just found that my '98 has a pre '96 front caliper.....suppose I should return these EBC 231s now.

Looks like the right  EBC parts for a pre '96 are:

FA129, FA129HH or there is a go faster (slower?) EPFA129HH

after that...

took brakes to bits anyway to see how they go together, sliding bracket was a novelty...
adjusted the clutch cable, was a bit close to the end of the travel
checked plug gap, was too narrow, adjusted to 0.8.
oiled chain
ignored oil weep from valve cover, needs valve clearances looked at anyway so a job for another day.
looked at header bolts pending new exhaust. they are rank and i dont think will ever come off :(

Made up a magnetic bolt / screw / thing tray out of an old margerine tub and some computer hard drive magnets. Those magnets are krazee strong so is a bit of an improvement on shop ones.

It's been a little over 6 years since I owned a GS500F, here is a photo of the last time I saw it

Rode to work for Ride to Work Day! No different than most other days, except for that there are more bikes in the parking lot.

My son and I put my wheels back on Saturday morning, and today is the first chance I've had to ride on the new tires since I was busy helping my brother-in-law move, plus Father's Day stuff over the weekend. The difference is amazing. The old tires were 9 years old with close to 13,000 miles on them, and the rear was really flat-spotted due to the PO's long highway commute. I'm astounded by how much easier it is to turn in, and even moreso by how easy it transitions between corners. I feel like I've been fighting it into the corners compared to how easily it turns now. I'm thrilled.

Gave my well kept 1998 a nice 2 hour clean, then went for a ride to the store, forgetting my backpack.
So I just rode around kinda randomly instead, showing off my sparkly clean bike.

Todays all-day bike maintenance was:
    * New bulb in the front right indicator, been feeling a right git for the last two weeks with it out.
    * Lightened the bike by a while 1 milligram by losing an instrument dial rubber boot thing. completely vanished, not on the ground, in the cables or in my shoe. Rev counter judders now...

rscottlow

Washed it, and cleaned and lubed the chain. Back to work tomorrow, so it'll be nice to be riding a clean bike.

Emptied most of the fuel from the gas tank and did a hillbilly carb synch with the tank still on. Tried tuning the mixture screws further but got frustrated using my homemade drill bit tool with gloves. I wish I could find mixture thumb screws for a 2007.

Update: Picked up a Harbor Freight Right Angle Screwdriver #92630 and modified it so that it wouldn't ratchet anymore. I adjusted the air mixture the best I could but determined that my carbs where still  out of synch. I was forced to ride around  most of the morning until I hit my reserve so I could do another hillbilly synch (so frustrating when you have the time and are forced to ride). Started up the bike and the idle starts racing so that I have to hit the kill switch. Wouldn't you know I left a spark plug unplugged? Other factors like the idle being set too high didn't help. The bike is running the best it's been. If this wasn't a hobby and I wasn't patient this bike would have gone to the garage many times already. Thanks GStwins community.

Replaced the worn-through airbox drain hose and drained the oil for an oil, filter and gasket(s) change.
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

Finished cleaning off old gasket material from the magneto side's cover and installed a new gasket. Also cleaned the airbox, set my new (to me) R6 shock to standard settings to see where to go from there and bought new stainless screws for the airbox/carb clamps.

If I can't fix it for free, it likely will not be fixed.

SV: lubed chain, hunted around the front wheel for an annoying squeak, rode to work
GS: bled rear brake, cleaned the rear wheel and sprocket carrier, new rear wheel bearings, reinstalled the starter flywheel

When I got the GS, the starter clutch bolts had all backed out and wrecked the flywheel.  I opted to weld up the fubared holes and redrill and tap for beefier bolts.  PSA for anyone who needs this same fix; STICK WITH THE STOCK SIZE BOLTS!   Machining the starter clutch for the new bolts was painful.  Just stick to the stock bolt size and use good loctite.

I sold my Yamaha SR500. What does that have to do with my GS? It is now paid for! My wife is happy. The guy who bought the SR promised not to chop it up, so I am happy.

Weekend 1:
Chain clean/lube and bike wash
(White lithium grease for the win)

Weekend 2:
Fork seals replaced and heavier weight oil used...
Left fork had moisture in it and the right had a leaky seal.... So much better now!

Put an R6 rear shock today--I'm doing the the front end tomorrow if the parts come in.

rocketgirl

new sprockets, put engine covers back on with new gaskets, cleaned carbs, new battery.
It started and ran (albeit badly) for the first time since I bought it. W00t!
Now I either have a vacuum leak or valves need adjustment.
