Maybe other than Jim Knopf I've never seen anyone spend so much money on the 500 LOL. I just wanna get an exhaust for Flick I get my taxes back soon but this hospital stay probably has already eaten those funds up.

So much I'd like to do to Flick but soo little money!

Well.....

Single (and available), no kids, 2 cats, so......   what's a guy to do?

Besides, Pixie and Stitch save me a lot of money by catching their own cat toys. This is Stitch. Plays with them "until the battery runs down".

Junior got a new stator cover.

Tomorrow Suzi goes for her 4k mile check up. No, I'm not riding so no fair yelling at me for not following doctor's orders.
centuryghost will ride her to the dealer.

nikfleisch

Took off the cover and gave it a nice "looking", I'm waiting for it to get above freezing to start her up and wake her from hibernating here in wisconsin!

Washed and waxed Jack, prepping for tomorrow's ride!   :D

I washed Taarna last night and charged her battery. Fitted the new saddlebags, then took them off. Went for a short ride in the drizzle (20 miles). Picked up a bike cover, chain/padlock, and a disc brake alarm/lock. She needs to be washed again now, but I'm not going to worry about that until I have her back at my apartment.

An adventurous day for Suzi. Today she went for her 4000 mile tune up.

I never had seen Suzi being ridden until today when centuryghost took her to the dealer for her 4k mile tune up. I followed in the "car" as he rode her (you've heard the story - broken achilles tendon, surgery, blah, blah, blah....)  He's the only other person I have ever let ride Suzi or Junior.

Those smoke turn signals look hot! They seem to disappear until they come on. The side marker lights/turn signals look cool, too. One guy is putting on clear. I think those would be more noticed because you would see the orange bulb through the clear lens (but still less obvious than orange lenses). The smoke lenses blend in with the rest of the black on the bike. Really cool looking.

Dealer was impressed with her. Not aware of the European factory clip ons and many of the other add-ons Suzi had. He commented that people only put crash sliders on AFTER they have had the bike fall over. Everyone should make them the #1 thing they do for their bike. I was assured there was no way they could get Suzi mixed up with any other bike. She is one of a kind.

Then I warned him about and showed him the neodymium magnets on the frame to trip traffic signals. Imagine seeing bolts and screwdrivers go flying out of their hands when working on Suzi! So strong they are just stuck to the frame. Almost impossible to remove.

Next Saturday we pick her up. She will be all tuned up with valve adjustment and a good washing. Now for the doctor to give me permission to ride again.....

Didn't you just buy a Harley when you could have made Flick very happy with a new exhaust?   :nono:

Toogoofy317

The Harley was free! Per se.

Hey how much did your dealer charge for a valve check BTW?

I pre-paid for all 5 service checks when I bought Suzi so they throw in the valve checks. They said today that having done that saves me a ton of money.

A week to do a service? I can understand letting the bike cool down overnight so a Proper valve check can be done when All metals are cool. But a week? Nah.

As for the crash sliders... my GS does Not have them, my 919 came with them and I will be removing them all together for two reasons...

1 - when mounted to the engine casing, during a crash the casing can bust - dead engine - as all the load is placed onto it. Only takes a slider to not slide like it should and to grab instead and dead engine. And there's lots of stuff on the road and side of the road for a slider to grab onto.

2 - when mounted to the frame, during a crash all force is put onto the frame. ANY damage to the frame is an automatic insurance right off.

No, not a week to do service. A week between times when centuryghost can go to the dealer with me on Saturday and Saturday's happen to fall exactly one week apart. I didn't invent the calendar. If I did, I would have put 2 Saturdays in each week.

Crash sliders: Also work GREAT when the bike falls over. Prevents the turn signals from punching through the cowling and the brake or clutch lever from breaking or bending. Same as if you happen to be on rough place or a hill turning or parking on ice and lose control and have to gently lay it down because your achilles tendon is broken and you can't put a lot of force on your left foot.  :flipoff: (Been there, done that)

As for write-offs, it depends on your insurance company and the policy you have. And if you're crashing hard enough that you have to worry about what crash sliders will do, nothing would help you except a policy for total bike replacement. Instead of crash sliders, let's call them "Fall over protectors".

Did a quick service on my bike. Managed to f%$k up the O-ring for the oil filter. It's now in pieces in the bin and my bike is stuck in the garage until I get a new one. Plus I have about 1 litre of oil on the floor to clean up.

mister

A 30 mph slide with the Sliders sticking on a tree root will do all the frame/engine damage you need. If it's damage to the frame - any frame damage whatsoever no matter how small - insurance companies in Australia write off the bike even if there is nothing else visible wrong with the bike. It's what they do down here.

My bikes are naked so I don't need to be concerned about fairing damage. I'd rather replace a bent clutch or brake lever and an indicator light than have a bike written off due to frame damage or need multiple thousands in repairs cause the engine casing was broken. But that's ME, you, and others, have a different take on it. Whatever floats your boat. Yes, I know people say sliders have saved their bike. And maybe they have. If you want to use them, use them, just be aware of the possible negative effects if used and something happens and then you can make an informed decision, fair enough?

I choose not to use them.

If I had my way, everyday would be a Sunday so I get paid penalty rates for working them  :thumb:

Thank you for permission to leave the "bike fall over bumpers" on my bikes.

As for crashes, due to the Coriolis effect we experience them different here in the northern hemisphere. That also causes tree roots grow down into the ground rather than up through the road so we never slide into them.

mister

C'mon Addy, they're either "fall over protectors" or "fall over bumpers" they cannot be both.

And hey... we Do have trees grow upside down here. Leaves grow into the ground, roots stick up like spikes ready to impale your azz. Damn obstacle course avoiding them every time you ride on the road. Between them and the roos - who'll hop along side for a while then dart in front just at the right time to hit you - the diff-killing wombats, stoned koalas, roadkill guts and roaches that fly (did you know roaches bite), we need plates of steel armor to get on our bikes. But we're hard core down here and forgo the 3inch armor plating and take it in our stride. Makes for better riding skills  :thumb: :thumb:

Oh, seeing as this is a "what you dun fer ur bike today" thread...

I sponge bathed it - lubed the chain yesterday - AND ordered Another clock/thermometer for the other bike. Rock'n it. Woohoo  :woohoo:

Twisted

I adjusted the chain tension as it was almost dragging on the centre stand. Will need to get my fork seals sorted out soon as I swear the front forks are getting mushier. I also went for a ride last night and wandered aimlessly around the city for hours, was so good just riding with no set destination, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

adidasguy

OK. I'll be politically correct and go with "fall over thingies".
Thank god we don't have to worry about the dingoes eatin' our babies up here.
Throw one on the barbie for me and have a Fosters.

Oh, getting back on topic: what I just did...
Just took decals of a new 1989 white belly pan in preparation for making it candy antaries red for Junior.
Used some engine degreaser (too toxic to sell in California so you know it has to be good!) to remove the remaining adhesive (those stickers been on since 1989). Worked great. Didn't damage the fiberglass. Now I'll lightly sand it to get ready for repainting. The pearl white looks close to the undercoat for the candy red. I'll test a spot and see if I can get away with just the candy red. It is a belly pan, so not as noticeable as the seat or headlight cowling if there are imperfections.
