And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

So my front brake was a bit shithouse, not absolutely terrifying, but I do leave much more stopping room in front of me on the bike than I would in my cage or in a work truck.  In fact when I drive a client's truck or van after riding to the job I think "gee this stops well", when I get back into my car if I haven't driven it for a week or so I think "gee this stops well".  The GS's brakes have still saved my ass on occasion, but they need a really hard grip for an emergency stop.

Fresh fluid didn't cure the problem, so I was thinking I was probably going to need a new MC, a caliper rebuild, new lines etc.  Then this morning I tried the front brake, while I was standing in front of the bike.  The lever moved smoothly without it's usual creeky resistance.  It dawned on me that the angle at which I was applying force to the lever was in fact causing it to scrape on it's bracket, and that there wasn't actually a hydraulic problem at all, just a mechanical issue in the lever.

Tightened up a few things and went for a ride, and the thing stops a whole lot better,  the pressure that would previously "set up" the brakes now actually results in some genuine deceleration, and I can get that fork dipping, tank hugging,  nut crushing E stop deceleration without giving my right wrist carpal tunnel.  I'm going to add a couple of washers to the purchase point and see if I can further smooth out the action.

So yeah, don't overlook the obvious when trying to fix a problem.

Zute and I took our bikes on a boat ride to Vashon Island. Those are island maps affixed to the tanks with magnets.

They got to ride some really fun twisties in the woods. We felt like adventure biking!

They enjoyed the waterfront and found a new friend: a Yamaha 200 dual sport.

We saw this bike. Figured since it has been in the tree since 1914, it is a little more restoration than I feel like doing.

And that's what we did for our bikes today.

steezin_and_wheezin

yesterday i got new tires, and installed lowering links installed, then lowered front to match. My friend swapped the oil and plugs in his gsF, had a little drip after trying to reuse old filter cover gasket. with new gasket on and acorn nuts torqued we took them for a short test ride. Gotta love warm weekends!

Put on my new Renthal CR High handlebars and ProTaper pillow top grips.  Now I need bar end mirrors with weights,......vibes are pretty noticeable without the stock bar end weights.
