Took my GS on it's first overnight camping trip. It wasn't far from home, maybe 15 miles. Just wanted to test my equipment out before i take a muti-day trip to PA.

Packing my hard cases. The two 36L cases hold lots of stuff, so all i need to strap on the seat is my tent and tarp.

What type of hard bags do you have, Givi? and can you get mounting brackets to fit or do you have to modify some? Any help would be useful, I would like to put hard bags on my 2006 GS500F.
Thanks

Rode Phenix today. FUN! WOW!
Hanging idle going way. I thing the carbs needed some use and some loving. There are no air leaks as per liberal spraying of starter fluid.

I'm going to explore the vacuum switch and the sensor for 1st and 2nd. Maybe the ICU controlling that vacuum switch is causing extra vacuum in the carb caps to keep them open longer? Experimenting will tell. That will happen in the weeks to come.

Put all the children to bed for a couple days.

Never in my life could I have dreamed or imagined that I would have 5 running motorcycles. Time to sell Trey.

Got to go out and ride with my brother for about two hours, got home just as it started to rain. Lost him in the twisties, he has a Can-am Spider, but he drives kind of slow (he likes to look around only goes about 50-55mph) but it was fun to go.

My new-used givi a750 came in today. Needs some paint, but until the rain stops it'll make a pretty good spare helmet. Can't beat 50 bones shipped.

When in doubt, empty the magazine.

This was my tuesday.

So I wanted to up the rear spring preload to take a pillion, it's currently set at 2 which is unusable with a pillion.  I tried to get a generic adjustable c wrench anywhere near the shock collar.  There was no getting close to it so I decided to remove the little mudflap on the bottom of the swingarm to give myself some clearance.  Then I managed to strip out one of the two philips screws holding it on.  Suzuki's liking for using philips heads on these chunky bolts made out of quite crappy steel is starting to shaZam! me.  Especially when they put them in places like the bottom of the swingarm, where they're just going to rust in place.

Tried to drill in an ezy out.  No dice.  Hacksawing a new screw slot was similarly fruitless, I could get a bit of a turn on it, but then the flatblade screwdriver would chew out more steel and I'd have to file the shape back into it, and then I did get a 1/4 turn on it, which put it at the wrong angle to reach with a hacksaw or file.  My heavy hammer drill died the other week, not that I'd have had the clearance to get it in there,  The little cordless drill doesn't really spin fast enough to drill out steel with the bits I had available.

Next contestant: the angle grinder.  I worked out I could reach it with the 4" grinding wheel, provided I removed the chain.  I decided to just pop the front sprocket off, and as I was removing the cover, the work floodlight burned out it's globe.  I ruled out trying to use an angle grider without a very good light source, especially as my safety glasses are tinted.

Ok, do it the old fashioned way.  I put on some music and started filing.  I managed to get through most of the screw head before bed time.  Before going to bed I looked up GStwins and found that most people just hit the collar with a punch cos you can't really get a C wrench in there properly anyway.
