140 X 70  17 , 110's up front,  they made them for the Ninja 250 racing class. Those bike have the same rim sizes.

I can't recommend these tyres highly enough.
I know my user name sucks but I have a cam in my name and cams in my bike.

First big ride test of the new needle, jet, and spring changes today, around 480km in the rain.

I must say that it's now quite awesome to ride, although I still reckon I'm missing something at WOT and am thinking of going back to my original 8 size up mains (137.5) and seeing how that goes. The mixture screws are almost right, might lean them out just a touch more.

my GS500E does not like needle hight change, will run way too rich. Bigger jets primary and main it loves  :woohoo:

what changes did you make to the spring?

Since we have almost 1" of snow on the ground (if that) this morning, i will probably go out to the garage kick on the electric heater and shine the bike up a bit.

Awaits warmer days

Interesting... are your intake and exhaust stock? Mind you I'm no guru on this topic, and I've only fiddled with my 450...

The spring mod was to cut 20mm off them, allows the slides to rise quicker.

Adjusted the idle speed:  the previous owner had it up way too high.
Probably did this to prevent the bike from stalling when I came round to pick it up last week (bike had been stationary for almost a year.)
Ran just fine on lower revs.

Took it to a dealer to see if the carbs really needed cleaning.  (less than 6000km on the clocks, but PO thought it might be a good idea because it'd been standing still so long.)  Dealer said it wasn't necessary.  Oil/filter, maybe cycle one tank with engine cleaner.
Don't have to open them up...

Ordered standard links (was lowered).
Bought a used seat from Glen at Piston Broke Cycles.  :thumb: (foam was cut out)

The links will raise my bike a bit in general, the seat will give me a bit more legroom.

Did lots of parts sorting. Why do I have 7 side stands? Amazing the stuff I found.
Set up a K&L stand over Quin. Next week I'll start his renovation. Videos will be made of many things I do.
This stand is really hefty and heavy. Really nice to have a portable stand to work on bikes. Next will ne a Harbor Freight bike lift (when on sale again)

Lubed the chain, had  a general look over/check over of the bike, and then found a dry patch of weather to have my first ride in  2 weeks. Lovely grub - a short, one hour squirt - but still lovely.

Dry weather??? You're obviously not in Brissie!!!  :icon_razz:

Changed out the tail light, who ever said it was direct bolt in LIED!!
Bolts were wider and higher on the new tailight, had to make some custom brackets.. Forgot to take pics
I also got good at R-n-R'ing the plastics as a unit  :)

Also did a bit of a fenderectomy, looks SO much better..
Before

After

I would like to mask out the tail light so only the round parts and see through too..

checked and added oil, clean/lubed/checked tension of chain, synced carbs. then a test ride to confirm its awesomeness.

Not sure if anyone of said it was a "direct replacement". I recall everyone saying it required new holes or was not too difficult to install.

Looks good.

boggy

looking on google map and found they had taken a photo of my house when I had just got my bike out of the garage ready to go to work.

Did the roll-off method to find out that my main jet is slightly lean.

It may be lean at 30*F, but is it lean in the summer?  I'll wait and see.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

They are direct bolt on!! You must have bought the wrong ones. Mine bolted straight on with no mods whatsoever? :dunno_black:
I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

The ebay ad said 98 99 00 01 YAMAHA YZFR1 YZF R1 TAILLIGHT TAIL LIGHT but could have been wrong. It OK, just got me closer to my bike, I got to do some fabricating and made me actually bolt down my vise that has been just sitting on my workbench  :)
Looks great though! Trying to figure out how to do a black matte finish on it so it looks like it does when the gasket is on there like this

I would prefer something I can take off so I don't ruin the lense, maybe a vinyl wrap or something..
