But who would recommend a GS500F as a first bike?  :cookoo:

Which forum am I currently posting in again?

I certainly hope that post is a joke or the kid will kill himself and the father will be responsible.

I never understand that question or why its ever even asked.  Exactly what is the answer one is looking for when they ask that question anyway?  Buy what you want and live (or die) with your decision ... Just my 2 cents.

Another forum I was on some guy posted a picture of the brand new ducati hypermotard he bought for his 17 year old as a first bike. It was wrecked about 2 weeks later. Oddly enough, the dad was the one that crashed it, haha.

I can see the lure to such a bike at a young age......When I was 17 or so the ZX-7 and 10 just came out and were looking oh so fine!!!  The ONLY way I could have gotten insurance would have been financing through yamaha and they arranged coverage.  I think full coverage for me at the time was going to be $4,600 a year.   :icon_eek:

Didn't happen.......probably saved my life that insurance agent.  I can't imagine a 17 year old on a busa with no experience.  I can't believe the one response "yeah you don't need all the hp all the time"  Scary

I still say the 500f wouldn't be a bad starter.  Get the look without blistering speed.

... now we have all this geewiz crap with syntho-titty-farkle to eat your money. money is for gas. gas = fun. doit.

I understand the lure as such things. You grow watching shows with people driving and riding powerful vehicles flawlessly and you just want one. Hell I turbo'd my first car in that pursuit.

The very first sentence says its all.

"My dad has given me 10,000 to spend on any transportation..."

This does not mean his dad said go get a Busa, let alone his dad probably was thinking a car when stating "transportation".

I'd like to kick him not answer him. It doesn't take 1/2 a brain to realize a Busa is not a good bike to learn on. To me it sounds like some spoiled brat who got a wad of cash for a first car and like someone else said, the father just wasn't specific enough by using the term "transportation". He figured, a Busa is transportation, then went to yahoo hoping someone could convince him it was an acceptable idea. Of course it's a good idea to learn on a Busa, MTV says so!
I do think one could use maybe 15-20 more HPs out of the GS but that only matters later on down the road after after you've become somewhat proficient with the basics. Speaking of "proficient", if you haven't read Proficient Motorcycling, READ IT!!! Great, and I mean GREAT book about motorcycle riding techniques to improve safety. Sorry for my mini-rant but I'm getting tired of the speed racers everywhere. Like the incident up near Seattle,WA.

Either this is a spoiled rich kid or it's a staged question, and I suspect the latter.

Actually the 'Busa is easy to ride if you're full-grown.  The thing about it is it's ridiculously powerful and such bikes encourage inexperienced riders to get themselves into bad situations.  Other than that it's as safe and easy to ride as anything else.
