How do I remove these?

Not sure if these are removable or not, but I seemed to have stripped out the bolts while trying to remove:

Tried to remove these thinking the ignition came off this way. Was I wrong  :icon_sad:

PS This is not the steering stem from my bike. Just using as an example.

If they are still there, remove the cotter pins first.  Then you just need an allenwrench to hold the top bolt and a socket or a wrench to turn the nut on the bottom.

If you stripped out the bolts on the top, you can crimp down on it with a vice grip to get the nut off. Then go down to your friendly neighborhood hardware store and find replacements, you can get a couple cotter pins while you're there.

You don't need to remove the handlebar mount from the upper tripple to get the ignition off. Unfortunately, the ignition (on my 93) was held in place with a special kind of security bolt that's stripped from the factory. The manual tells you to get it out using a punch, but it didn't work for me. I eventually drilled out the bolts.

Other ideas:

- impact gun and slightly undersize socket.
- Drill a small pilot hole, and try an easy out.
- If those fail, drill out the bolt heads.

Be aware that the bolt is actually pretty thick, on the order of 2-3mm.

Didn't really read your post, just looked at the picture with the arrows.  As burning1 said, if you are trying the remove the ignition switch those have nothing to do with it.

Burning I don't think he's talking about the ignition, I think he's talking about the bolts that hold the handle bar mount to the top triple clamp. I believe it's an 8mm hex key and either a 13 or 14mm wrench. If it's stripped you're just gonna have to go with vice grips or power tools to force it.

He mentions the ignition switch at the bottom of his post... So... I dunno. The OP is a little unclear on what he's trying to accomplish.

I tried removing these a year ago, thinking the ignition came off that way. I was new to the bike and didn't have any experience with its parts. At first they bolts looked like they were glued on somehow and there was no way to remove them. I've drilled out bolts before so I'll do that if need be. Thanks!
