Emulsion Tube (Needle Jet) Positioning

Alright,  I'm in the process of tearing down my carbs.  During the disassembly I pulled the emulsion tubes to find they were rather disgusting and will be needing replacement, question is, how to position them?  The clymer manual is pretty useless "align the flat on the needle jet with the flat on the stanchion  in the carburetor body" and the picture shows the housing but nothing that I would call a "flat"

the carb work page http://gstwin.com/carb_work.htm has a line that says "Then slide the needle jet (see photo). It must be inserted in a position: inspect carb body (needle jet housing) to see that there is a small notch that will prevent the needle jet from being installed the wrong way."

again, I see no notch, I see absolutely nothing that will prevent the tube from being installed in any arbitrary position. 

what am I missing guys?

I've never dealt with GS500 carbs, but most emulsion tubes will have a little slot milled out in one side. There should be a corresponding tab of some sort on the carb body to line up with.

On the top of the emulsion tube, is there a half circle shaped hood? If so, that hooded part is towards the air filter side.

I think I found it

On closer inspection, on the side of the housing is a place for a small brass pin that protrudes SLIGHTLY into the channel for the tube.  that flat has to be on that side...I think.

My next bike is going to be EFI

I've built track cars, been doing my own wrenching on my EFI cars for years now.  Sure injectors can be pricey....but they are SO much less hassle than a carb
