This is a sad tale.  I just got a new head for this thing due to a cracked valve, but the new head didn't come with the bearing caps.  The originals are, well, original, and I just stripped the threads out of one while torquing it down to spec.

I guess I could buy the whole head from you if need be, and it may not even need to be in good condition if that one bearing cap is a clean fit.

Thanks!

Camshaft bearing caps are machined with the head. They are not swappable between heads.
Common sense in not very common.

I have a handful of bearing caps and you can just have one of them if you want to risk it. I *should* have a perfectly good head in the mail that I'd sell to you, but I'm still trying to wrestle it out of this guy. PM me if you're interested in either and we'll figure it out.

If you want to risk it, you can swap caps, cams or even used valves. The lower the miles (ie... less wear) on the donor, the better. It's not a guaranteed fail, but you might run into faster wear and tear of the softer metal(s) depending on how much it will naturally conform to the other part. I've done it on cars and bikes all of which still run without any related issues to this day. I wouldn't swap throw away parts like main or rod bearings though.

i replaced two cam caps with ones from a differant head and used a caliper to check the roundness and have no related problems since
