Street Fighter Pass. Pegs Almost Done

OK, so I wanted to try and keep the lines of the bike clean, when viewed from the side. With that in mind I wanted a set of Pass. Pegs that were either easily detachable and or stow-able on the bike or something that folded and or hid out of sight when not in use.

The Peg assembly will mount 3/4 of the way down, the Subframe support bar.

I cut the U Bracket (Silver Colored) off of the original peg frame hangers, stripped the rubber peg material off of it's square metal stock (Half Black Colored), cut it's end level and inserted the male end of a 3/8th's Socket Adapter, with the female end sitting flush, then welded the adapter into the leg. Think of this piece as a sort of Kickstand, once the U joint is welded to the frame, the leg of it will be able to raise up flush with the subframe rail, and it will be able to be lowered staying at a slight angle once down, to place the actual peg attached to it, in the right location for the Pass.

I then went and purchased 2 3/8th's Ratchets at Harbor Freight , these ratchets have index-able handles that lock in any position. This way you can fold the ratchet up and have it pretty compact.

With the ratcheting head, and index-able handle, I can swing the ratchet head portion out, then fold the handle out, locking both into place so the Pass has a nice long peg.

In this pic, the bars the ratchets click onto are in the raised position and will be flush with the subframe support rail, with the Ratchet Handle tucked up under the seat area. I still need to figure out a way to keep the assembly in the Up position, a way without needing any tools to put it in the up position and stay there, I'm thinking possibly putting a spring, like a kickstand type set up, but we shall see. I still need to clean them up, paint it and weld the assembly (Silver U-Piece) to the subframe.

I may have to be very clear and consistent in telling my GF on how to get on and off the bike without stepping on the pegs to get up on or to get off. I'm not sure how much pressure the ratchets can handle, we shall see. When riding, the Pass. shouldn't exert mush weight on the peg as I believe the serve mostly as a perch for the feet, getting on or off may tax this set up. The Ratchets were like $25 for the pair, if it doesn't work out, I'll try building something else.

Thats a nifty idea and will probably look sweet. I wonder how much weight those ratchets can handle. And how long they can handle it. also if they could take a shock load, say when going over a bump with 90-100lbs on them. Im not trying to rain on any parades, but safety concerns come to mind.
I only ask this because I have broken plenty of 3/8 ratchets and bent 3/8 breaker bars with just my arm strength, I'm not the hulk  :icon_mrgreen: (not yet anyways) Im talkin like 150-200#ish without shock load.
Keep up the good work, but consider upgrading to 1/2 drive ratchets.

I would never put my weight on a tool that came from Harbor Freight. haha

Cool idea though. I guess it will suit it's purpose, as long as whoever is on the back isn't bouncing up and down on them.

Nice fab! However, i would have someone sit on the back and really, really test it. Put plenty of weight on it. Like black and silver wrote, you dont want to hit a bump and have those give out. Bad things could result for the passenger.

I remember seeing an episode of American Thunder where they show some hidden passenger foot pegs. They were pretty cool.

The pegs were hidden in a sleeve and attached the frame. The sleeve container was locate mostly on the hidden/inside area of the frame and the activation and locking mechanism was also inside the sleave. The peg would be hidden in the sleeve and you would have to depress the peg for it to pop out and press it in to lock in into the sleeve.

Been googling and can't seem to find it but that would give youa really clean line. It might be $$$ though.

Sea, that's exactly the design my brother and I were trying to figure out, a Sleeve(Peg), within a Tube...We were thinking of Hidden Kitchen Drawer Hardware (Push t open latch mech.) but never really got further than thinking about it...

Before I mount these up, I will test them by putting my full weight on them and seeing if I cant break them, basically I will try my hardest...

Results to follow.

Those are exactly what I want, but I am not sure I could use them. 1, I dont have a round cross frame support to bolt it to and even if I did, 2. I think were I'd need to position them, the might come in contact with the tire under suspension mvt. I will look at them more closely. Thank you.

Here are some updated pics, pretty much completed....

One Arm mounted...

Side view of the arm, in it's extended/down position...

Here the peg/ratchet is in it's up/hidden position, with the index-able handle folded to help conceal the entire mechanism...

In the down position with the Peg/Ratchet still folded on itself...

Ratchet head turned out, handle still folded up...

Peg fully extended, ready for use...

Here the other side is finished...

Fully concealed...

I will purchase 2 small, yet powerful magnets and epoxy them to the inside area of the frame were the Pegs end up in the concealed position, that should hold them in the up position.

I tried to break the index able handle on the ratchet, put the head in a vice, locked the handle in numerous positions, slid a 3' pipe over it and pulled for all I was worth, nothing happened. Once the pegs were fully welded onto the bike, and with it suspended in the air by a chain fall I hung off of the extended pegs, the area were the pass. feet will be, I weigh close to 180Lbs. and nothing budged. My girl might be 115Lbs. on a bad day, so hopefully they hold up...

The ratchets snap into the 3/8ths Female adapter with a ball like detent, you cannot pull the ratchet out of the peg once clicked in however, I might mix up some JB Weld and coat the inside of the adapter to bond the 2 together.

Hope it works out for ya. I still think the ratchet mechanism is the weak point, hope fully time/use wont break them. Also I would drill a hole through the socket and square drive and pin them together, I dont think JB weld will last long with the vibes a gs makes.

Man I am a pessimist but I do hope it works well for her safety.
