Frame Petcock Diaphragm Replacement

Hey there, I took the petcock off the frame to clean it out good and tore the diaphragm with a screwdriver getting it apart.  BTW to anyone who hasn't taken it apart the screws are not very tight at all and the diaphragm cover feels like it it super glued to the main body.  Be CAREFUL and gently pry it apart.

Anyway,
Can you buy the diaphragm by itself?  I have read where many just convert it to a non vac system.  I would like to keep it stock if I can.  If there is a place you can get them, post a link if you have it.  I appreciate it.  It was clean as a whistle BTW.  Figured it would have had rust in it because it would only fill fuel filter in the position half way between on and res.......  Flowed very well there.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

sounds good.......thanks a lot.  I saw one post where the guy JB welded some channels shut.  Didn't see one with pics.  Is that one still the best to follow?

I read a little while back about the problem with parking the bike and leaving it on prime.  I am wondering about how the pingel petcock would be different from this?  On the pingel do you turn it off every time you are done riding?  If not it seems like it would be the same as a gravity feed from prime position.  Am I dreaming this? :dunno_black:

theoretically, yes. you would turn off the pingel after riding.

Thanks again for the response pandymai...

I have decided to do the newer mode F petcock to try to use the vac...I am not sure what trouble to expect as I have been messing with the carbs/rust etc....don't want to risk the tank of gas in my oil.  The Pingel or just doing a standard on off switch sounds fine but I honestly think I might forget to turn it off.

Hope to ditch the starvation issues with this.  I did notice the small white disc in the vac circuit had a big piece of rubber in the hole in the middle.  I thought it was just made like that because it was only in one.  I may mess around with it and see if a piece of nitrile will work as a patch.  I am not sure how good the bond will be and it will have to be on the fuel side.

I do plan on fabricating a bracket when I put the newer style petcock on and if it turns out to look decent I may fab a few more while I am at it.  I know some people around are hanging it with bailing wire so maybe this will be a little more solid.

Anyway, I am just rambling now.

I appreciate your input.

if your float needles are in good condition, and your float heights adjusted properly, you shouldnt have an issue with flooding cylinders. (not a pro, but i've never seemed to have a problem and i've left it in prime plenty of times)

a newer petcock may be the business, i just dont have the extra money. next time i get money im gettin brakes. my pads are done, rotor's well under minimum. yup. im gonna die haha running slowly and using engine and rear brakes. am i stupid? yeah. haha

anyways back to the subject.

make sure to look at the manual and at parts fiches to make sure that any parts you plan on "fixing" are in fact broken. other than that, good luck and ride safely =]

Well I ended up being the proud owner of two of the new style petcocks.  Was bidding on one....and found another with a better shipping price on a buy it now.  Went ahead and bought it to avoid missing out all together.  The original one I figured I would get outbid on since I outbid by a buck or something.  Tried contacting seller to cancel my bid if possible....By the time I got the reply the auction had ended.  Anway, there are worse things to have than two motorcycle parts.  Once I get squared away I may surprise you with the extra one.
