hello there, i've been following this forum for some time. Now i'm in a bit of trouble and need your help... i crashed my gs. The forks are completely toasted and i don't now about the handlebar, triple tree, wheel, instruments etc, but i guess they shouldn't be in a much better condition. As for the frame of the bike, i also don't have a clue, but it looks ok. So i thought that going for a whole used front end (with wheel etc) will be my deal. The thing is there is not such a big offer here in greece for gs nor - as i have searched the forum - for katana gsx600f or 750. There are some gsxr750 90-00', so i guess i should look that hard way (i'm saying hard, as i have read the descriptions and i didn't figure out if an old gsxr750. fe fits and anyway i don't think i need ultra-braking, i just want a straight fe for my humble gs). But i would like to ask if a katana gsx400f would do the trick as i have spotted some for a good price (same goes for bandit 400 but i think there is another post here that erases my hopes for bandit)

Or anything else. As i said i don't think i need super braking so any suggestions for suitable / easy swaps from all kind of motorcycles (better if they are older, more possibilities to find one in a salvage yard) which have front ends as decent as the gs will be very-very welcome!

everything that you will find will need some modification
a GS will bolt up onto a GS
everything else will need some help to fit

lower bearing is a 30mm
upper brg is a 25mm
length....measure it I don't remember

many yamaha and suzuki standard and sport bikes have the same brgs on the tripples as the GS
rg250
rg-v 250 (sweet almost bolt in)
the GSX series should all work
88-95 gsxr600/750 will work
FZR250/400/600 will work
older R-6 /yzf600/750 should work

will work/should work depends on how hard you want to ride check the bearings and either hand machine and use spacers or find a machine shop to modify the tripple tree
then comes the fun of mounting the headlight, gauges, and steering stops in a semi professional manner if your local laws will allow you to modify your bike for road use
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

I suggest you start by dismantling your front end and checking what is actually damaged, make a list and price replacing things. Its hard to tell from your photos, but it looks like not much more than forks and headlight?? It might be easier to just replace the stock forks. They're not cheap, but it would be a quick and easy fix. A different front end would end up as quite a project. It depends how much you rely on the bike for transport, or whether you can afford to be without it for a while.
Good luck!

thank you guys for the answers. I'll start dismantling first, as suggested. If the triple tree looks ok, is there any chance that it is not? I mean how can i know that my triple tree, wheel or down tubes are bent if they look ok (apart from fixing it all up again and doing circles instead of a straight line )?
And another question: if everything else is -hopefully- straight except for the upper chrome tubes, all the other bikes that wear tubes of same diameter (37mm i think) as the gs and have more or less the same length, can they become donors for my crashed one??

and a cheapy last one: what about the front light? any suggestions of possible donors (if anyone has done a swap)?
Thank you guys again!
