Any really tall riders in here?

I'm tall, really freakin tall and pretty skinny too. I'm 6'4" 155lbs and I'm starting to adjust to riding this baby. At first I just shimmed up the rear of the seat using washers under the release, which helped a little but it slopes the seat too much and can be ugly for my manly bits.

I'm going to add some nylon washers under the front of the seat and bring it up about 1/4 of an inch and drop the rear back down a little and see what that does for me. I also have a katana FE so I'm leaning over pretty far. I'm getting used to the posture of riding using my body to keep weight off my elbow, finding some new muscles too.  :D

Just wondering if there are any other really tall riders out there and what you guys do, I probably look like a bear on a tricycle but I kinda like it. I like having something smaller I feel like I can control, I was a hardcore mountain biker in high school and I always rode bikes with frames that were a few inches too small, looked goofy but I could tuck that thing under a knee and freakin roll.  :D

6'2"... it's a little undersized but I think one approach would be to move the pegs in addition to any seat mods.  Instead of shimming the seat you could put some sort of pad on it, perhaps.

I thought about taking apart the seat and adding a pad, but I'll see what shimming does first.

I don't feel like I'm too big for the bike...probably looks different to other people though. I'm pretty comfortable on the bike I only have an issue with riding downhill for extended time. That's not an issue with the bike though, just a matter of building more strength into the leg and core muscles.

I'm 6' 3" and I feel pretty cramped on my bike too. Thats one of the reasons I'm looking to sell mine and get a bigger bike. That and because it doesn't have enough power to go up the hills around me even though I'm only 175 lbs! Just my personal experience.

6' 3" tall and 185 pounds (tall & skinny).
Use 20mm dropped pegs, an Air Hawk seat under my butt, and a set of "up & back" handle bar risers on my 2007 "F" bike.

I'm good for about 200 miles (or about 4 hours) before I need to get off the bike from fatigue.

Keep experimenting Slim, and tune for comfort!  :thumb:

Look here, Slim.  Until somebody says "Shut your cracker-@ss up", or "let him build his own d@mn bike, already" I'm gonna keep trying to help you.
Cause that's just how I roll.  If that's a problem, let me know.

The seat material is only about $7 a yard.  It's cloth-backed vinyl.  Most sewing shops have it.  And the women inside like to stare at my butt when I go in.  YMMV.
No need for glue or anything.  Just staples, patience, and a hair dryer on low heat to help with wrinkles.
I've been told that neoprene rubber mousepads work fine, but hold heat from the sun.  And they're stackable and cheap.  Cuts easy with a heated Exacto knife.
I'd buy a used seat and go to town.

Also - There's a guy in Florida that'll do it for $50.  SWWEET @ss seats.  honeycombed gel padding, etc.  AVD-type distance riders love him.  Can't remember his name at the moment.  The problem is shipping.  You can Ebay one to his house, last I heard.
Also - The "Butt-Buffer" guy lives right in between us.  Stokesdale or some place.  About the same thing, and same price.

The clip-on mounts can be changed out.  I don't know any manufacturers that offer different ones, though.
The GSXR pegs on there could POSSIBLY be switched for Buell pegs.  Distance riders do that.  They have a 1" drop, built in.
A GSXR rear shock will pick the rear up an inch, so you don't have to flatfoot so bad at lights.  But, the ride's harsh.
Other than that: Woodcrafts.  $$$

Hmm, thats all great advice. I'll fiddle with the seat height before I pull it apart first, and see what that does, then I'll try adding some gel to the seat and see what that does. Then I'll think about drop down pegs if I need them.

The clip-ons stay.  :icon_twisted: I don't mind being bent over, I just gotta get my ass up and a little more level so I'm not sliding down onto my manly bits during a long ride.

Well Gee, thanks for noticing Syzygy.  :D
I simply switched from beer to wine and presto!
The pounds came off.

Just wondering how Slim made out with his seat raising...I'm not that tall 5'11, but I have a long inseam 33", and find the pegs to close to my ass...I'm pretty bent up with the ball of my feet on the pegs, if I hook the heal on the pegs it's better, but I don't feel like I have as much control of the bike...an extra inch or so would probably do it... :dunno_black:

6' 4" and 250+#.  I reckon I look like a duck riding a June Bug on the GS.  I fit the VTX1300C better and even the GL1800 is a mite cramped.

I really have a lot of fun riding my bike, but I have to get off after about 1-1.5hrs...here's a pic of me on the bike...

My legs are pretty cramped, and being 275lbs doesn't help either...poor little bike!!   :dunno_white:

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep the bike or get a cuiser...I have started eating better and light exercise...hoping to get down to 200lbs by next season...the bike is lots of fun and great on gas, but so would a 800cc cruiser...I'll figure it out...

Later.

im 6 4 and 200 lbs and bottom out the front fork quite often

i dont really mind me being tall for comfort although about 150 miles of country roads in a day is about my limit its more about my weight dominating the bike

i also bought the bike for 800 so i dont really care that much, ill thrash it hard and beat it until it dies or until the spring, whichever comes first

Now I know what I look like on the bike! I'm 6'5" and 280 lbs. Lol. I bottom out my front forks a lot too...so I'll probably swap springs before too long. Still don't know what I want to do to make it easier for me. Lowering pegs is good but then I'll scrape peg on tight turns...

I thought I was tight on the bike, but you got 6" on me... ;)  I am trying to decide of I want to upgrade next year, or take a year and play with the GS since I am still having fun on the bike...the only time I find it lacking is on the hiway in traffic...otherwise the bike has enough power and the suspension doesn't bottom out too often.  Like I mentioned, I am trying to loose weight and that should have a positive effect on every aspect of riding (not to mention the health benefits)...

What have you done to yours to try to make it more comfortable?

Mine is still stock, at least in that aspect. It hasn't been too bad for me. It was worse at first. Now, 19k miles later, I'm pretty used to it. I still want to get handlebar risers though. My back hurts sometimes when I ride. So I'll eventually do that and maybe lowered pegs/swapped pegs/etc.

its pretty ugly but you get it for $20 delivered from Wally wOrld and it raises your butt, helps out the crappy stock seat, and helps you slide back onto the bump a bit.

You can use Golds Gym workout pad as raw material for seat rebuild if you do it yourself. Wally World, cheap.
