So in an effort to make the GS's fun factor remain maxed for me, I want to throw some clubman bars on the GS. Only thing is I'm not sure if they will fit on my 07 F. I read up on the SM2 bars, and they look nice, but I would rather get the clubmans for $130 less if they will fit. Anyone have clubman's on their F?

You might look at some of the photos (including mine) that show the original factory "clip-ons". They were only available in the US in 1989 but up until 2000 in Europe and somewhere in-between in Canada (which is why my 2nd bike which is a 1992 Canadian has clip ons).

The originals will fit by replacing just the top plate. Adding on any other clip-ons requires lowering the fork as noted in other message threads.
My 92 has the originals and my 2009 has the standard bars. The old clip-ons are fun!

You can find the top plate on ebay as well as the left and right bars. Just swap your top plate and move your controls from your standard bars to the clip-ons. Can be done in about 15 minutes. However - you'll probably be buying them from the UK or Germany and maybe Canada. Remember that GS's had the clip ons in Europe through 2000 so over there they are easy to find.

I found out all that because I've been getting parts to restore my 1992 to original factory parts and the bars were slightly bent from the bike having been dropped sometime in the past. I wanted straight, original bars. I did order a couple sets. They're somewhere over the Atlantic ocean right now.

I really enjoy the different type of ride on the '92 with the clip-ons. I might try putting them on my 2009 just to see how they look.

Consider the originals. They do work and I think would give you the fun factor you want without having to mess up the balance of your bike by lowering the forks. and I think the originals just look right - like they belong there and don't have the look of "gee, I modified my bike and tried to make things fit".

Edited it to add this photo for your reference. You can see the right bar has a slight bend - which is why I searched and found out where to get them.

OK, sorry, I was confused about which clubmans you were talking about. I thought the clip-on type. Still, I think going with the original Suzuki's would look and feel better.

I am almost certain that Clubmans wont fit on the GS. Try drag bars instead.

SM2 bars barely fit on a F model.  I sincerely doubt clubmans will.

Keep an eye out on ebay for the SM bars.  I managed to get a used pair for literally 25 dollars delivered.  I just needed to be creative with my search terms.

Where did you get your SM2 bars, on ebay? I was thinking about the original clip ons, and I think they'd be pretty solid now. I'll try to find a pair of both sets.

Original top plates:

That's the only one I saw today. Didn't see any bars.

However, what you do is find any UK shop selling GS500, GS500E or GS500F parts then check their store and you should be able to find them. Stuff comes and goes daily.

here are links to some parts I just bought. You can check the sellers other parts and probably find the top plate and bars. I've included one link per seller, even though I may have bought complete sets from them (Helps to see the key words they used in the listing for when you do searches)

If there is a problem with the links, you can locate them by the item number in the link. remember ebay keeps things for 90 days or so which means if you're reading this post after a few months, the items may not be there.

Oh, once I do get in all the parts and see what I have and the condition, I'll be putting some sets for sale here on GSTwins because I know some other people are wanting the original clip-ons.

I was also thinking about just getting these:

If I install them above the triple, how far will I have to move the forks, and will I need to duck with my sidestand at all? Sorry about all the noob questions and thanks again for the assistance, have no experience with this.

There is an adjustable replacement side stand. I forget who makes it. If you need it, I can research it because it is available through one of the "saved sellers" in my ebay list. I remember seeing it when looking for GS500 parts.

If you do want the old factory clip ons, I can help you find them.

When I ran my clipons, I just removed the top plate the original bars and gauges mount to, never slid the fork tubes at all. Just used a bracket to mount the gauges afterward. Just took 'em off, p/m me if interested....they're black in color.
