Just got my rego renewal notice, and holy butt-F&cking Jesus!  >:(

Up $100 from last year to $717, what the living f%$k!

Goddamn goverment leeching B*stards.

I seriously need to move to West Aus, if what I read is correct it would cost me less than half that to register the bike there.  :cookoo:

Probably not, but this thread is intended to share the pain (or lack of if you get cheap rego).

crikey that is steep.. still for a GS? .. in NSW its costing me $108 to RTA and about $278 to greenslip ppl .. the rego transfer cost me more at $187 but thats to be expected i guess.

Yep. If I were to step up to a bike anything over 600cc it would only cost me $5 more.

wow, that's expensive.  When I lived in Delaware it was only $10/year to register motorcycles.  I think they raised it to $15 now.  I think California has got to be the most expensive state for registering vehicles and it's still only like $60-70/year.

I just paid the Rego on mine in Queensland today. $450 which I thought was an outrage. Glad I don't live over the border.

Shaddow

Hey Pave what state you in? I'm in NSW and the greenslip price came down this year for 300-750cc bikes. Everything went up and under 300cc went up DRAMATICALLY. Stupidly so.

tt_four

Are we talking about registration or insurance? I think registration here is $25 a year, insurance on the GS was about $97 for liability and the XB9 was $116. Full coverage on either would've been about $250.

My electric bill on the other hand.... used to be about $57 every month, and last month jumped up to $197. Haven't gotten this months yet. F'n dogs and their air conditioning...

The OP is from Australia.

I saw English insurance quotes on the board that truly scared me. Above a thousand pounds for a GS.

USA is "going socialist".........here is an example of things to come!

And on top of all the compulsory third-party insurance price hikes, here in NSW (Australia) government have just dumped mobile speed cameras operated by civvies upon us! Can you believe that this is an on-the-nose State government seven months out from an election!
On a positive note, this week's demonstration outside the NSW Parliament - yipeeeee!! over a thousand bike and scooter riders turned up - does appear to have an impact on politicians' viewpoints with both sides saying that they would "look at" CTP insurance statistics/costs. Shall I hold my breath?

elader

My insurance (with good coverage, but no health coverage) is $110USD per year. They must know how slowly I ride  >:(

Initial registration in Maryland for any used motor vehicle is like sales tax, 6% of value. After that it's cheap.

mister

TT,

Rego in Aust (Qld) includes.... Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance, Traffic Improvement Fees, Registration Fee.

So in Queensland the price works out to...

Registration fee   94.05
Traffic improvement fee   47.15
CTP insurance premium   284.00
========
Total fee ($)   425.20
========

BTW, for a Single Seater rego it is only 240. And these prices apparently Don't change depending on Who you choose as your CTP insurer - price generated from https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/eQuote/eQuote.jsp

Pave's prices for comparison are...

Registration 10.00
CTPI - Item D(2) 634.95
GST on CTPI 63.50
Administration 9.00
Total 717.45

Cheaper "registration" but Massive CTP

Prices from http://www.nt.gov.au/transport/mvr/registration/index.shtml

NOTE, the CTP is Third Party Injury NOT property. For damage to property you Still need Your Normal Insurance. What we call Rego is a govt lumped thing where you pay the Ownership-Tax as shown above and then get a Label to put on your bike together with your License Plate (tag).

In WA it appears to be 2.75% of the vehicle's value and it's called a Vehicle License http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/1382.asp

I am actually Dubious about this Registration. Dubious inasmuch as What it actually is. There is Some evidence that by Registering your vehicle you are passing Legal Title to the Govt while you keep Equitable Title. By doing so, the govt can then Legally Confiscate your vehicle if/when the case may be - as they actually have title to it. Otherwise, if they did not have legal title then any confiscation would actually be theft. So Registration passes legal title to the govt while the vehicle's user and person who paid for it, has the Illusion they own it even getting a Certificate of Title/Registration.

Much like a Property Deed always lists the Govt as an encumbrance. By the Govt being on the Deed, they then have the Right to Take your property when you do not pay your property taxes. The Illusion of Ownership.

Once I find out for sure (re registration), I'll post the necessary evidence.

Digress....

Big $ - including Big Insurance - put Massive pressure on the politicians. The pollies pass a legislation which sees an increase in Compulsory Insurance Premiums and Big Insurance makes a squillion. Big insurance profits while pollies or transport depts or anyone else, takes the blame. Clever deception.

Pave, looking at the inconsistency of prices with MCs, it might pay to call your dept trans and Ask them why such a large difference in 3rd party insurance on bikes v car.

My motorcycle registration renewal this year was $67.50. Come to think of it, that's all I pay every year.

grahamlocklin

Does registration include insurance? if so that is cheap.

I'm 25+, first year riding, took the safety course. Insurance for the year is ~800 canadian dollars + another ~20 for the license plates. Wasn't any cheaper when my wife took over the GS.
